My horse has been out of work for the best part of a year through injury. He was given the go ahead min november but then colicked and couldnt be worked due to complications from a proceedure he had at the vets.

He now needs to be worked but I cant ride due to a head injury and the inability to get a hat on my head.

He needs to be cantering int he next 3/4 weeks and then back to the vets for a scan. Im loathed to just leave him abit longer as he is getting bored and unhappy. I cant afford to pay someone to ride him! So guess id be looking for a sharer or just someone to ride him for nothing. Do you think Ill find someone?

If he's not been ridden for best part of a year I think having him cantering in the next three or four weeks may be a bit of a tall order.

What's his behaviour like? Is he likely to be daft after so long out of work or is he likely to be fine?

If he's not going to be nuts then there are a lot of people out there who can't afford their own horse who would be interested possibly.

you could work him from the ground, lunge or better, loose. teach him all sorts that way. I've done a lot of it, it creats a very good bond

Im following a fitness plan from the vets and he needs to be cantering in week 4/5 (not long canters I will add - literally 2/3 minutes to start with)

He isnt nuts but may be a little bright, and im sure once he settles into the work he will be just fine!

Sorry, I read it as cantering within 3 - 4 weeks. apologies for that. Good luck in finding the right person, I think it's a good time to be looking for a sharer or loaner at the moment.

I met someone in a pub and she turned out to be super help. She never wanted paying and rode my (extra) horse very competently. she has now moved but I acted as a refence for her to ride another lady's horses and I was happy to do that.
Try advertising, and asking around specify exactly what you want and set out rules in advance. I think the ground work and lungeing ideas are also good.
I advertised my (extra) horse to be ridden, and charged people to ride him, not paid them!. I got three replies! There are a lot of decent riders out there who do not have a horse and would be glad of the chance to help out, for free. Just make sure you are explicit in saying what you want, for how long etc and make sure the person has insurance, and check they are good enough by ringing for a reference. Good luck and I hope your head heals up quickly.

Can Boltonrider help you?

(apologies if you are not still with him!
