i can't decide to move, or stay where i am. current yard, i have been there 8 years plus. £20 per week diy, no facilities, but have my own field,and can more or less do as i want, but the fencing is very poor, and stables need some desperate work,good hacking and great liveries who all get on. potential yard 2, £38 per week diy, inc hay or haylage and straw, free use of indoor arena, jumping paddock, mixed turn out with post and rail, american barn style stabling, instructor on sight who is yard manager, tea room wash area. off road hacking, i have 2 horses, horse 1, 22 year old laminitis prone with cushings, who is retired, horse 2, 8 year old competition horse, so two horses with different needs, both yards are the same distance from where i live, but in opposite direction
 
There's a lot to be said about having your own field to do what you want with, in this weather I'd be finding out if yard 2 has closed or is closing the fields. Can you section off for the laminitic? £38 per week isn't bad in my area for bedding and forage. Yard 2 sounds better, can you use other instructors if the YM doesn't suit you?

What is it that makes you have itchy feet?

Yard 2 sounds much better for the young horse so can they accommodate the oldie?
 
I can see why your torn. Yard 1 sounds more suitable for your older Horse and the second yard sounds like it has better facilities for your second Horse.

i love having my own field, so would be hard to share, my main concern is my old mare as the grazing is fantastic at yard 2, nobody gives their horses hard feed, i would need a starvation paddock ,this would have to be a must before even considering moving, it was a few months when i went to look, and i'm almost sure the ym said she as a shetland that is lami prone, so could be turn out buddies, i'm sure you can use your own instuctor,

no not really for facilities, the yard where i am is going down hill fast, the farmer as already sold land around farm, we now have to go through a mini building site to get to our fields

i feel like i am a very bad owner at the moment, my old horse got mud fever last week, i know i should have fetched her in, but my stables are not that safe, and if she got out would be straight on to road as we have no closed gates onto yard, and mare does not like to be in. for some lucky reason, i have managed the mud fever with vaseline, mud fever cream and antibiotics. i have 2 stables, but they are not together, which makes things a lot harder.

Don't feel guilty about the mud fever - I am not far from your area and I've never seen the fields this bad. My hardy ponies have got mud fever for the first time this month and I've been in a real dielmma how to deal with it, I have a rented field and my own field shelter but no stables.
I've finally had to give in and move them elsewhere temporarily, but never seen my fields looking so wet.

I'm assuming you have approached your current farmer and asked him to make the necessary repairs? If he's refused or ignored you, then it's time to move.

Before you move to yard 2, get on paper what exactly they are offering - eg is it ad lib hay/haylage/straw or a set amount etc. How is turnout restricted at this time of year.
Can you negotiate to keep your two horses together, perhaps using electric fencing? if you explain your converns, and YO realises you are not awkward just have your horse's welfare at heart they should be accommodating and be able to work out a solution with you.
