I've got a bit of dilema! A mornings hunting has com up on the 26th of November just up the road. I would LOVE to take my fell pony as he loves hunting BUT - he isn't fit. He hasn't been sat on in a month. The hunt is only a 2-3hour newcomers meet so nothing too taxing and I could get him fit for it. Another part of the but - It's on my birthday. It is also the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle that day. I have sttood at the railings and watched this race ever year for the last 7 years - they even moved it to Newbury just before the Hennessey for me last year when I took a horse there!

SO - Do I go hunting or do I go to watch my beloved Fighting Fifth?!?!?

Go hunting, you can do the other stuff next year - the hunt may not be back in your area next year & so you may regret not going this year if you don't go :)

If fell pony is not that fit could you do an hours hunting and excuse yourself, get him sorted and then head off to the races or do they clash time wise as well?

I won't have time to ride him over winter - I start work when it's dark and get home when it's dark so it's kind of a no brainer on going hunting at later date. Think I may go to the last spring hunts and go racing this time around. still only 75/25 to go racing though.

I would not risk taking anything that was unfit to any kind of fun ride, hunt, or show or even a beach ride - knowing most horses they will try there heart out for you, and possibly end up with an injury - and be honest when your having a fab time out it is so easy to loose all track of time, and you will not forgive yourself.

As others have said, get pony fit for next year and box off somewhere - it could be a cheaper option in the long run.

Have a fab birthday though
