I have decided that i will in the near future be selling my most treasured boy, Taffster. However I have a dilemma would you sell him with a good record for dressage and excellent showing record with the potential to be hoys standard workers or would you get him out doing workers in the winter and sell him proven?? Last winter he was in the top 3 novice classes for workers winning his first BSPS class out of 10 but he does need much more experience before the big open classes as he hasnt jumped all year except for twice.
The value wouldnt alter much to be fair so it would purely be to widen the market. And where would you sell such a horse? I have been told to put him for sale at BSPS Summer Champs where he will be competing I dont know what the success rate is there?

I personally would take him out over the winter myself and try and get a good record for him. Whilest spreading the word around that he will be coming up for sale in the near future. That would be the best way to find someone who wants such a horse, someone who is on the 'circuit'.

I would advertise him now with his good dressage and showing record. I can't remember how old he is, but another 6 months down the line he'll be older, have more wear and tear and will have cost you more to show than the added value of his sale.

I would stick a for sale sign on his bum for the catalogue for the rest of the shows you do this season - and stick him on some of the better on-line sites. As well as HHO.

What about advertising on the native websites such as Hamlets House too, as these are usually free?

I don't think you should sell him though

Ooooh!! Just as i clicked on your post i sat thinking "Ah i really like her boy."
Bad times!! He'll be snapped up whatever you decide.

I agree with AmyMay - sell now. People are looking for bargains and projects. Proven horses may not be so appealing as more expensive.

There is someone on Hamlets House at the moment moaning about how hard it is to find a nice D as they looking for one - so put his ad up on there!

Thanks for your input everyone, I think a good place to start is bsps summer champs that way the "right" people will be aware.
He has just gone 7, He isnt going to be a project or bargain for anyone i'm afraid there is very little needed to do with this horse he goes clear over novice courses he just needs a little consistent schooling to ensure his style is perfected for the opens.

I am sure there will be floods of tears when the day comes and i feel sorry for the potential purchasers i will be a nightmare but i will wnat to be as sure as sure can be that he gets a perfect home.

I had a choice i can either bring him back and him be a happy hacker or I can sell him to a competition home where he can fulfil his competition life - he absolutely loves his job and does extremely well he has still loads to give as although he is 7 he was a late starter and hacked out once a week until he was rising 6. He will make Hoys as a worker if not flat although currently he is getting placed in hoys quals and i just think he would be totally wasted hacking twice a week, not to mention he would be back to fat taf

I think the problem i would have with that would be i just wouldnt find anything to compare - without bragging he really is the most genuine horse ever! The producer wehre he is rode him at a show the other week as regular jockey couldnt get time off work she thought it was amazing to just sit there whilst the horse went in and did his show. She thinks he is so easy and i think thats a compliment. So if you know of anyone looking for something pass the word on!
