Quick report from our dressage outing last weekend....better late than never.

Entered P18 and N30, nice ish tests and his second crack at novice at our local venue. Torin loves this showground and it being only 10 minutes down the road from means theres no hanging about or long journeys for him to get bored. Warmed up on the new indoor surface which torin found gave him incredible bounce in his canter transitions :D If anything warmed up a little tense and rushed as there was withdrawals leaving the classes running early. Went into the test and he just relaxed and was really taking the contact forward and was really consistent which is what we have been working on at home, couple of moments where he broke into canter in our half 20m circles which is new for him. I then had to back off with the leg as he was very much ahead of me, if I'm honest I would rather him be infront of my leg than behind where he gets all flustered because i have to get after him. Finished grinning ear to ear as i felt bar the couple of mistakes it was the nicest test he has ever done, yet our score was only 62.5% - compared to the 68% he got in his last prelim which wasn't as good a test.

N30 next and again went round sweetly, little bit unsettled into the contact and some of the mediums didn't really happen, but done a really super free walk. Again only awarded just under 61% compared to the 64% we got the week before in a very babyish test. Placed 6th in P18 and 4th in N30 and left feeling a bit confused but pleased none the less.
Pic from the dressage, in which I had just given him a swift scratch on the neck to reassure him

I do love Torin, such a handsome boy.

I often feel like that with dressage, but when I reflect back and read the sheets, I can understand why. If he was very in front of your leg, he may have been rushing and on the forehand, giving a less pleasing picture than if you're having to give him a little more backup with your leg. Also different judges give different marks, so I always look at where I've come in the class and how close the marks are. 6th and 4th are not bad results at all though - so well done!
