disappointing pics.....stuck!

Well have waited almost 2 weeks for some photos to come back and i have to say i am really disappointed :( basically someone who i know none horsey asked if she could take a few pics of my horses as she wanted to go into animals......she took some stunning ones of them out grazing etc....and she gave me a free print.
Having been impressed by them i asked if she would take a few of our jumping lesson a few weeks back, she explained that the A4 size prints would be £20 each, no prob i though get some nice pics of my mare and me jumping. Two other people shared the lesson and again had pics, which they all wanted.
Pics came through via email and am so disappointed :( there all taken either on landing or very unflattering angles ie through the air etc......flat work previous to jumping was beautiful, but again no pics atall just unflattering ones :( very disappointed and worse still feel obliged to buy!!!! i think alot has to do with her being none horsey :(

What shall i do??

ETZ have just emailed explaining the type of jumping pic i wanted and also for more flatwork pics

awww I know how you feel. my OH, brothers girlfriend is a photographer and she came and took some photos of my boys and I was dissaponited with them aswell (ears back etc). I also felt obliged to buy a couple!
I agree thou, think it was becuase she was non-horsey!!
 
If she wants to make a go of it, I'd let her tactfully know what you're looking for (moment of suspension photos mainly, and perhaps a few take-offs). Tell her it's what everyone would want if she was booked for a jump job, so it'd be useful to her in future and help her increase sales. Thanks to digital photography, the only outlays she would have would be travel and time, so it's not like she's spent a fortune only to not recoup any so I wouldn't feel obliged - I'd ask her if she wanted a second go, and tell her you look forward to buying a couple of this second crop 80) I got the hang of photographing derbies on my second outing so it doesn't take long, and the better your camera, the easier it is. Mine's I have to press a full second before what I want to picture actually takes place! lol.
 
If you don't like them, don't buy them! You are not obliged to buy if they are no good! If she gets some feedback, then she will maybe learn more about how to take action shots, I don't know. But I personally wouldn't be parting with any cash if I wasn't happy.
 
Serephin said exactly what I was going to say. She should be grateful to you for the opportunity to hone her skills.
 
Have emailed her back asking for more pics, she sent me 7 and she took tonnes. Have shown her an example of the kind of pics that look the best - ie take off.
Just waiting to hear back.

Wow, just looked at the website, they are really beautiful photos of horses. Going to show them to my dad whose a photographer and say I want photos like that please!!! They were definately impressive!!!
 
My OH manages to get brilliant photos of my schooling without being a professional because his camera has a quick shutter option that literally takes dozens of photos a second (or you knoew something similar but more plausible!!!). It doesn't cost anything because they are digital and it just takes 10 minutes extra to look through 200 photos of one movement and chose the best one. If they have a similar camera it might be possible for a friend or relative to do the same for you without you having to spend a fortune on photos.
 
As a photographer and a rider I can sympathise with both the OP and the photographer.

As a rider I know what type of photo someone would want and as a photographer... well I know how to work my camera :D

When I was competing I was lucky as my Dad was a photographer but one of the girls at the yard wanted some pics and came up with an awesome idea!

She contacted local colleges and universities and said that if any of their photography students wanted to build a portfolio or practise then to give them her contact details. She got a LOT of FREE photographs! Worth a try! :)
