Fatty is hurt he was out the night before last and came in with a wound on his OH about half way down the cannon bone lots of swelling very sore .
Vet called worried it's perhaps a broken splint bone on box rest till Friday then reassess I have to give him horrible antibiotic syrup which fats won't eat so has to syringed and danilon .
I have not broken it to MrGS what a broken splint bone will mean ( just when he's retiring too ).
At the same time vet examined J who had a swollen fetlock which was thought to be nothing serious but had not resolved fully with field rest , verdict looks like more than we thought so he's on box rest too.
Cracking start to the preseason just when I was getting excited .
Thankfully I started fatty early so I have a little wiggle room.
I fear J hearing us say he was hunting the full season and then being turned away while we travel next year is planning being injured till March and then getting next summer off .
Hoping it all is not worse case scenario stuff .
Off for a gin .

Oh no, bloomin horses.

Tbh I think I would get Fatty x-rayed first as last - they do like to keep us on our toes - hope both turn out to be nothing serious x

Getting your starched nurse uniform on. Lots of syringing nasty medicine, baths and vigorous grooming. They'll soon be showing you how quickly they've recovered and escaping back to the field.

Both off to horsepital in the morning .
I am feeling pretty glum .
Fatty for X-rays and J for a scan and X-rays on top of it all J's mouth is full of ulcers his mouth will be the death of him.
J's dental bill for this year is over £1000 on top of the huge sum I spent when he arrived I am going to have to some creative accounting so MrGS does not find out .

Well goodish news .
Fatty has a lot do blood and serum trapped under his skin the splint bone is intact but there's a dark shadow around his cannon bone which is thought to be trapped blood .
It's been flushed again and strapped up he's back on antibiotics and danilon three days total box rest then turn out in a very small paddock and start walking in hand building up to riding he'll miss the beginning of autumn hunting but will be ok for the main event unless there's a foreign body in the leg . Phew .
J lovely clean joints on the X-rays nothing showing on scan except the filling in the tendon sheath . Sound lunging ( soft and hard ) and trot up but a minimal reaction to flexion ( not as much as 1/10 ) .
Steroid into tendon sheath and a little local anaesthetic which removed the reaction to flexion , so we are in the right place .
Three days total box rest on lami watch .start danilon again on Monday .
Then very very restricted turn out ( will need to build very small pen ) and return to walking exercise and observe .
So good news really just quite a lot of faffing about but a fighting chance of them making the season .
So just the biggy of J disastrous mouth poor horse it's going to end his life early no getting away from that now ,that is a subject for another thread need to research some more and I think get professor Dixon on the case .
