Went to see the horse this lunch time, and there was something wrong with his eye as he had obviously had had some discharge coming out of eye as it had dried all around it.
I looked at it, and the eye was redder than usual.

What do i do to it to help, if anything. he wasnt bothered about me touching it. But i don't want it to be an infection that could gets worse.

Monty gets little irritations in his eyes in the summer from the flies and they go quite runny and red. I use goldeye eye and it works a treat. You can get it from boots and just squeeze a bit in twice a day for about three days and it clears it up.

Keep an eye on it though since conjunctivitis is contagious.

oh ok thanks. hope its not contagious. my horse hates being on his own and hates living in a stable. :s
I'll will keep and eye on it and if still looks bad get some eye drops for him and hope it clears up.
he may have just poked himself in the eye with a tree.

The golden eye is very soothing and monty seems to really like it when he's itchy. The cream is much easier to administer than the drops so get that if you can.

Monitor it carefully, and if it isn't looking better by tomorrow or is getting worse, get the vet out.

Eyes can go spectacularly nasty very quickly!

Also never keep eye drops you are given by the vet to use again in the future. I saw a horse that had a corneal ulcer, trainer just happened to have some old drops hanging around, bad news they had steroids in! 3 weeks of very expensive treatment at a vet clinic later they did manage to save the eye. One call out and the correct sort of drops would have done the job in the first place!

Better an unnecessary vet visit than ending up with a one eyed horse.
