......OMG what a difference!

I have been struggling with madam to maintain a consistent contact and get her to start working properly from behind and over her back.

Well after a bit of an epiphany I realised I wasn't using my stumpy little legs properly, now I have found the use of my legs I have also found her buttons! and her incredible trot! and my is it big, so much so she nearly trotted me out of the saddle, needless to say I cannot wait to school her again and hopefully recreate this amazing feeling.

Anyone else have lightbulb moments like this that make the WORLD of difference.

Fantastic. Keep up the good work.

I have been having many mini lightbulb moments with my new instructor. One of mine is the opposite of yours, I need to stop using my stumpy little legs. Nag nag nag they go, pumping away on Fs sides, whilst he tunes out and ignores them. Take them off, wobble them about, relax my body and, hey presto, I have a horse who can move properly!

I feel your lightbulb joy!
I love 'my' RS horse to bits, however the combination of novice (me) and reluctance to school (him) meant we weren't getting far so I swopped to a mare who knows and will do dressagey stuff, she's a bit of a scaredy cat but I learned so much from her (and brilliant instructor). Yesterday I returned to 'my' boy for the first time in 3 months and oh, the difference! He really seemed to want to please me and do what I wanted, guess my riding has improved and the experience was so much better for him. Was grinning for the rest of the day.
