yes, although not really directly... I'll try to explain.
I work for a big company, and they claim that they always promote the best person for the job... earlier this year there was an opening for my supervisors role, (lets call it DPM). The dpm role is about demand management, requires a high level of organisation, a good knowledge of the processes in the plant, and of the computer system we use. You are supposed to be a good communicator between different departments and to be able to 'argue' your case for different production strategies.
I applied, along with about 4 others all from different departments.
The guy that got the role came from the R&D side of the business, has had 4 different posts in as many years and is the most disorganised person on the planet. He can't work half the program we use, and is rubbish at telling anyone what's going on... he does understand the processes, but he doesn't get the whole idea of production strategy....He is now moving back to the department he came from after less than 2 months in the post!
The discrimination against me IMO was the fact that I'd been with the company 4 months, I was a good 10 years younger than the other applicants, I was the only girl to apply and one of the 2 doing the interviews really doesn't like me. I actually made a complaint about the choice of interviewer (to the MD) but was told it wasn't his decision to make.
The one of the interviewers who doesn't like me fancies the pants off the bloke that got it, she was too busy brown-nosing the MD to further her position to be fair, and she has also recently accused my colleague of bullying her.... it's quite blatantly to the rest of the office the other way around.
i punched a lad in the face on my school bus wen i was at school because he was taking the p*ss out of me for riding horses!
soon shut him up tho!
thankfully nothing worse than that
Yes as a mixed race couple on a dutch campsite in France. We were made to fee lVERY unwelcome. We have stayed in Holland many times and always made most welcome. Never experienced anything like it anywhere.
Positive discrimination, anyone? I'm a girl, and I find this does open doors for me in the way of courses I apply for, because I am looking to study civil engineering. Recently I got on a course at Oxford Uni and I think it was because I'm a girl, lol!
