What proportion of people do you think lie when selling their lorries?

My friend brought some adverts for 3.5 ton lorries down to the yard tonight and the number that were glaringly lying about the weight of the lorry was alarming. Several were clearly over 3.5ton before you even put a horse in, all were proudly proclaiming you could carry two horses, one even claimed it would take up to three ponies.

What scares me is that alot of people will believe what they are being told, and then either drive them without the correct license and insurance or cause an accident when they are massively overladen.

Seems like this is something that should be regulated more thoroughly before there are some nasty accidents, More and more people want a 3.5 ton so it seems perfectly acceptable to call your lorry that even if it clearly isn't.

The lorry should have a certificate with it's weight on it, ask to see it or have it faxed to you before you go then no wasted journeys!

Trouble is that a lot of people are only concerned about capacity and don't know about the weight limit. I've recently been through the lorry buying process and was gob-smacked by the amount of sellers that were either unaware of the weight limit or trying to conceal it being an issue.

I only went to view lorries being sold by people who knew about unladen weight, gross weight and payload. Anyone who sounded vague got a thanks but no thanks - I learnt this the hard way after going just over 50 miles to view what turned out to be a box built to carry ponies rather than the 2 x 16.2 I said it needed to carry (it was advertised as being a 6 tonne lorry too because she picked up the 'train weight' off the certificate rather then the gross weight............)
