What do you use? I know you can get a proprietary custom-made disinfectant and cleaner from Fieldguard, but I wondered if anyone had successfully used anything more easily available?

I use fieldguard gloop, it lasts ages, goes a long way and smells really nice, but for everyday use Iuse just a cheap supermarket pine disenfectant, brings the mats up really clean and smells good too. It is also safe to use on the mats, some products weaken the mats.

I use Jeyes fluid, and although this may look a bit odd, I use a mob and bucket. Makes so much less mess than buckets of water or the hose.

I flip the mats over, mop the underside of them and the floor, then flip them back again. Best buy this year lol.

Cannot remember what my one is called, but you get the little sachets in tack shops, really good. I just lifted them up, used a broom to get all the floor and a little up the walls let it dry out a bit and them put it all back.

The worst thing about doing it though is the rubber mats - all but two of mine are really light, but the two that are not feel like they are rubber with lead inside, soooo heavy!!!!

Thanks everyone! I am worried that Jeyes fluid or bleach will make the mats deteriorate over time, but soda or vinegar may be worth a go. There is no real smell problem, just that Beano has gone to school so it is a good opportunity to have a deep clean. May well try the proper Gloop if it lasts well!

Yep Jeyes will ruin the porous type mats and won't do solid rubber much good either. A yardmate of mine used to use Gloop and it was excellent, a little went a long way and it killed any smell. She used to put it in a watering can so's it went up the walls a little, then she'd lift one corner and just let the liquid run all over the floor under the mats leaving the top surface dry. Don't know how you get hold of it though and I want some!
