My 8yr old TB mare is usually eager to come out of the stable and say hello in the morning. However this morning she looked glazed over and disinterested. She was uncooparitive putting on her head collor and being lead out of her stable (she is normally willing). Once she was out of the stable she seemed a bit more interested but not much.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why she was like this? She is never mare-ish so can't be that. Is it possible that she was tired or hungry? Or maybe she is ill?

Thank you.

Well if you think her character has suddenly changed that could point to something. Possibly take her temperature and see if she is normal?

I would be inclined to keep a good eye on her and see if she perks up or changes. Sometimes it's it the little things you spot early on that make a difference or she might have been a bit dosey this morning...

its hard to say without knowing your horse.. only you can tell if she is different... was anything strange about this morning... were you earlier or later than normal... have you changed her food/hay rations or anything??

my best advice is just to keep an eye on her.. if it happens again tomorrow perhaps seeks some advcie from a vet.

from personal experience with my horse i know that just being subdued can be the only outward sign of something being up...

on the other hand... like you and me she might just be having an off day... so dont worry but if the pattern continues maybe get someone out to do a health check xx
