I’ve been offered a double field shelter/stable. Possible choice of two. One very good quality but a massive overhang which sounds unimportant but if you see it in reality it’s obviously going to be much harder to take apart.
The other has an overhang but is a simpler looking construction.
So question is, this isn’t something I’m capable of doing!
The seller says it’s very simple, roof off, disc cutter down the four corners to chop the nails holding the sides together, job done. Nothings ever that simple!
How easy/hard a task is this likely to be? Is it the sort of thing my OH will end up hating me forever over?
Is there even people that may do this kind of thing for money? (Minimal ?.... joking but half not)
My alternative is to buy smaller cheaper not as good quality new, I’d be happier with one of these 2nd hand though as we are quite exposed.

Two strongish people - maybe you could be helper/tea supplier?! As they say, roof off then separate the wall panels. If they are nailed I guess a disc cutter but the better wooden stables are bolted together so WD40 and spanners should do the job.
As a tip when you re erect put the panels back together with bolts (rather than nails). I have had a big horse lean on the wall of a nailed building and it all came apart. If you are putting it onto a concrete base also rag bolt it down - the suppliers always say it is not necessary but in my experience it is!!
You will need a large flat bed lorry to transport the panels - they are surprisingly big!

Thanks. Transport wise I think we are ok. The farm has a massive car transporter which I think big enough. Otherwise they also have a back off a flatbed lorry which they use to bale cart.
I can handle tea!
Seller (who I work for) is convinced it’s nailed but yes we will bolt it this end.
My itchy 15hh this weekend managed to break the nailed partition in my current wooden stables ?
It’s to go in a field, so no base. It’s currently on metal skids, also out in a field.

If you have the transport contact a local joiner ( or two ) for a quote ? Tell him that you have plenty of man power to assist ( you and OH ? ) but that you want him to oversee proceedings re dismantling and re erecting .Won't cost you anything to ask and someone might be very glad of the work in the current climate .
Sometimes it's worth the cost just to get the job done quicker !

We had someone in to dismantle old stables and they did exactly as described i.e. roof off and cut through connecting nails. We wanted to re-use some of the panels from the old stables elsewhere but warning, they are very heavy!! OH and I could not lift them and so ended up having to strip down so that we could shift them and then re-use.

Ohhh I’m not sure paying someone to oversee my husband do anything is going to go down well ? That might be a great idea but not one I’m brave enough to even suggest

If you have a car transporter and it's on metal skids, can't you just winch it on and move it in one piece?
It'll be far too wide. Max load width on uk roads is 2.9m. If the stables are 12ftx12ft that's 3.6m deep (front to back) so 70cm over the max permitted width. I'm sure it could be done but it would be an abnormal load requiring specialist transport. Bit of a hoo haa and jolly expensive. My ex dismantled and rebuilt a huge field shelter but he was a builder. It went back up ok but id say it would need a chippy/builder to do it for you.

If it would go on the available transport, it's not overly complicated, you use EDSAL or the application form to plot your route, helps if it's fairly simple/local and doesn't involve bridges and things! It sounds quite a faff angle grinding bolts and things too...If they are good quality, it's worth it, I suppose :)

My twin sis and a builder friend dismantaled a 30' stable that had been custom built....It was a marathon task ( Mags and I are only 4' 10'' ) but worth it in the end. There was no road access to the shelter so we had to ''barrow'' wide panels down the field and over a fence to the trailer. Mind you it didn't help that it was done in October so field was muddy and it was cold!. The stable had the doors kept open so the cattle in the field had been in it . It had been built on grass only which had turned into a muddy cow poo mess ! which had rubber mats buried in the swamp ..( Owner told us that the mats were not included in the price !...They were trashed anyway...lol ) .

We haven't seen our builder friend since!!!!!
