After reading the horrific stories in both Egypt and Gambia about they types of bits used - I wonder how many of you wonderful HHO's would donate small bits 4" to 5 1/2" to these worthy causes/

Gambia would love snaffles, Egypt seams to prefer pelhams etc.

Equines in these countries appear to have small mouths.. would you help make a differance and ask your local tack shop to be a collection point??

I will happily co-ordinate for Staffordshire and the West Midlands - anyone else want to step up and make a differance??

My idea is a poster that says "every BIT helps" or "do your BIT for equines around the world"

PM - me if you want to help - oh and if anyone is intellegent could you post some of the links off the Egypt and Gambia thread on here

thank you gw

We are in Australia, but do not see why we could not do something similar here- when you get a chance - post or pm details as to where the bits need to be sent to. (Can I send them directly rather than via uk). Please tell me where I can find further details as to the charity so I know what I am talking about.

But someone in Aus wont want to send a bit all the way to the uk for it to go all the way back to Gambia....

I am sure somefrom the UK Branch could give us a clue where to send them too for our oversea folks ??

Whispie - one of the girls has said NOT to post to EGYPT as they go walkies.... so i will try and find the thread that started this and lets see if we can combine the two -

Egypt seams not to want snaffles as much as the Gambia..... so between us all we should make everyone happy :)

I wonder if somebrave or someone who works at Robinsons would do a bin collection or a tub thing and then split the proceeds between both the Gambia one and the Egypt one ??

Great idea GW - any head collars or bridles need to be pony or cob size. Full size is just too big. I have a friend who's now working for The Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust. Jeeve - have a look at www.facebook.com/kiwicareteam and they came to Egypt with us and it might be easier for you to get bits and pieces to them in NZ rather than to the UK. They have also started doing a lot of work in Fiji with the working horses there. I would also be more than happy to take some more bits etc back to Giza in the New Year when we do our next trip.

i sent a box of bits to the gambia horse trust about 5 years ago they sent a nice letter back to say thanks, from what i remember they have more use for smaller bits as there horses are smaller

Hi,
Bit bank australia has been collecting bits ( mainly cob sized I think ) for transport to India. I'm not sure if they are still collecting... its called the friends of Marwari Bit Donation Scheme.
Kx

I have a few happy mouths in 5" and a 4.5" rubber Pelham.

I asked about sending bits to Egypt on a Facebook page and they explained that stuff goes missing or they have to pay customs to allow them to have it. The lady does trips back to Norway (I think) and if you send the bits there she brings them back herself.
