After a bad run at Pontispool yesterday, realise we STILL need work on ditches. Although on Thursday XC schooling he sailed over practically everything - dozy horse.

I think his main issue is going downhill to a ditch, but he does have a general ditch issue. He just plants his feet before it, and despite all the encouragement I can give, he will not go over the damn thing

.

Anyone got any suggestions as I would really appreciate it. We've tried trying to get him to walk through a ditch - that was a definate no-no. He's not a very persuasive horse

put blk bin bags or tarpaulin down in field/school,held down using jump poles! works a treat and they soon get use to jumping dark ditches.goodluck

My coloured had a real problem with ditches and we still don't fully trust him.
We had help from Nigel Taylor and dug them at home .Practice ,practice, practice is all I can say.

Ah yes, we are hopefully getting one dug at home shortly. Going to start off small and make it bigger.

Bin bags/tarpaulin is a good idea too as he really doesn't like them either.

Thanks for the idea guys.

Does a lead make any difference, we started our 4yo off at a schooling venue where the ditch was causing carnage, she just cantered straight over after her friend.
