Saddler came on Thursday and is confident that her back issues are not saddle related.

So after speaking to the physio we were given the all clear to begin riding her again under mild sedation.

So yesterday I sedated her lunged her then OH got on.
She was OK, a little resistant to start, but I think she was expecting it to hurt rather than actaully being in discomfort. Literally did 10 minutes on the lunge as she was very dopey, then we walked her up the lane and back and then OH got off and I popped her back on the lunge to finish.

I not sure what I was expecting - either that she was going to be really good or really bad, she was neither

Our plan for the next 4 weeks is to do a mix of lunging with with hacking or riding round the fields. We want to get her forward and off the leg without going in the school. Hopefully we can break the cycle and Diva will be back in action properly soon.

Positive vibes would be greatfully appreciated as I feel quite down but am trying to stay positive and visualise her back to how she was.

On a positive note my slimfast diet is going well

Positive vibes for you and Diva

Has the vet/chiro said to lunge her? I have always been told not to lunge when there are back issues and to ride in straight lines as much as possible until the horse is looser

Would be interested to know about this as the area is so grey!

Oh chin up hun

a middle result it better then her still being bad. As you said, it might take her a while to get out her mind that it hurts etc, i'm sure she will come back fine..

Weezy - when ever i have Stars back done, she's never said not to lunge, but I think when they say lunge they mean very easy loose walk/trot work etc...

Yes I was told by my physio and vets to ride in straight lines in walk for the first 20 mins for the first few days then the same in trot but to keep the lines as straight as possible when restarting work, but it could well be for a different problem.

I know how frustrating it all is, I have had the physio out who did find some tightness on his back quarters and I have also had the vet out for a second opinion as I do tend to worry and he passed every test thrown at him, he watched him on the lunge , been ridden , flexion tests , all fine.
I have now been riding in a different saddle and in my last lesson he produced the best work so far, so fingers crossed its just the saddle fit which has caused his problems

But I had 6 weeks of not really knowing what the matter was or still is, he's not 100% now, but we think that could be in his head that its going to hurt so he compensates for it .
The physio is coming back to check him over again this wednesday so hopefully she will see an improvement, but it does make you feel down.

I hope Diva starts to improve or at least you get to know what you are dealing with- sorry you may know already and I've missed your posts.

Try and keep positive and try not to read too much into things I know I do, I googled every sympton he had and then ended up in tears and wrote him off, but he has improved, its just been what seems a slow journey thus far.

I often joke to the others that it fell like I have a sound horse on box rest .

Sorry for the ramble, just keep your chin up.

Oh hope all is ok and sending vibes.......maybe longlining may be more beneficial if you have a large school... will keep you fit too especially when you hit trot!! You can keep more to straight lines then too.

Fingers tightly crossed. Like you say, it may well be a memory of pain and I'm sure it will become obvious over the next couple of weekes whether what you've done so far has done the trick.

Did you have a nice time last night? Hope he was suitably suprised

oh well atleast it isnt bad news !!

im always told not to lunge either and keep in straight lines but thats when gadgets puts his pelvis out !! xx

keeping fingers and all hooves (and that a lot) for you xx

I have been told to lunge her on a very big circle and move around with her as much as possible, she is being worked in side reins and is also being walked out in hand.

I have a hand-held massage unit with a magnet in which I use before and after exercise.

The whole lunging area is grey but to be honest she is a not great to hack so I would rather work her carefully in a safe and controlled environment on the lunge than risk riding her straight out.
