Hi all, hoping for some opinions for the sake of 'fairness'

I have 2 horses and the only other horse at the yard is owned by another lady.
We both agree there was no point in both of us going up there every day when all the horses needed the same care anyway, and she basically said let me know what days you want me to do.

Now we're both thinking it would be easier if we had scheduled days to do the horses, but she's left it to me to sort out when we want her to do them. Because I have 2 horses and she has 1 I don't think its fair to divide it equally (like, 3 days on, 3 days off) because she's doing twice the work when she does mine.

Would it be cheeky do you think to ask her to do 3 days and we do the other 4 each week? Currently she has usually been doing Tuesday and Wednesday and we do the rest of the week, does it seem too much to increase that by 1 day on her part do you think? All the horese are easy to do, vice-free and gentle so its all pretty straightforward. Or would it be more fair to keep it as she does 2 and we do 5 since we have an extra horse?

Thanks, creamy hot chocolate with marshmallows for whoever read this far :)

Tricky one and I don't think there is a 'right' answer, it depends if either of you feels aggrieved with either solution.

If you split it 3/4 you are doing her 4 turns and she is doing you 6.

If you split it 2/5 you are doing her 5 turns and she is doing you 4.

So, based on that the 2/5 split is closer to being fair - IYSWIM :D

2 horses + 1 horse = 3 horses. So you own 2/3rds, other lady owns 1/3rd. That's how the week should be broken up. You do 2/3rds of the week, other lady does 1/3rd. Sadly, this would result in you doing 4.6 days and her doing 2.3! To be absolutely fair, you could divide 6 days up, which would mean 4 days for you, 2 days for the other lady, then you both turn up Sundays and go for a ride together! However, there's an easy, if radical, way of sorting this out: you and the other lady buy another 2 horses each. Then that would be 4 horses + 3 horses = 7 horses and you'd own 4/7ths & other lady would own 3/7ths. Then you'd do 4/7ths of a week ie 4 days and other lady 3/7ths ie 3 days. Meep. Simples! x

Box of Frogs - I like your thinking!

Or, if they are being done twice a day, could you each do half of one day - so 2 and a half and 4 and a half?

LOL You guys are fab! I'm not sure our junk field could stand another few horses so keeping it at 2/5 seems the most logical step for now, thanks for the numbers as maths was never my strong point! We're both lucky that all the horses are so easy to do anyway, it will be nice to know what is going on each week without double-checking all the time though :)
