Isn't it really annoying when your trying to feed your pony all these fancy supplements that promise to make your horses coat shine but never do ect
Well, i thought that i could start a thread where everyone posts a few helpful DIY horsey tips. Here are some of mine
GROOMING:
1) If you have a chestnut horse, feed it pumpkin because it can really improve coat colour. All you have to do is chop up a piece of pumpkin including the skin and seeds and just microwave it for around 8-0 minutes, until it is soft. Then mix it in with the feed.
2) For itchy tails, mix equal parts of Listerine (original formula) and baby oil in a spray bottle. Lightly spray it on the tail and using your fingers, comb the hair making sure the spray goes right into the roots. Apparently this really works and seems to get rid of dandruff too.
3) Lightly coat blackened hoofs with hairspray for a better shine. This can be quite useful at shows.
4) When you are cleaning your grooming brushes, occasionally rub in some baby oil through the bristles to keep them soft and also this will make them last for a longer time.
SADDLERY:
1) To make silver parts of your saddlery really shiny, rub them over with a pencil eraser and then buff it off with a clean cloth.
2) If you have stainless steel bits or stirrups that have rusted over time, soak them in a bowl of vinegar for several days to dissolve the rust. Then rinse them thoroughly before using them again.
3) If your having one of those really lazy days where you run out of saddle soap and you cant be bothered to go to the tack shop
then you can make your own saddle soap by melting a normal bar of soap, oil and milk in a pan, and leaving it to set in a tub.
i got most of these off the internet
but feel free to post any DIY tips on this thread if you have any
