DIY livery in/near Exeter?

I may well be moving to Exeter, if I can find a good yard it is very likely. I live in Launceston, but work in Exeter. Whilst were I am my rent is low & includes a room in the house, I reckon I could move to Exeter, rent a room & pay DIY livery for my mare & 3 yr old filly, & the money I save on diesel each month it would cost approximately the same. It is a daily 100 mile round trip plus park & ride costs. I drive a small diesel car.

Does anyone know of nice (as in pleasant people - doesn't have to be fancy) livery yards, want all year turnout in small herd or just together (my girls are always bottom of the pecking order & getting hurt so I don't want them in a big herd - there's always one 5hitty horse & I want to minimise the chance of my girls getting kicked), 2 stables, school (if poss but not essential), good hacking. I have 2 small girls, 15.1 & 14.3hh, very easy going, viceless. I am an advanced endurance rider & happy to help out anyone on yard who wants to start doing it.
 
I work in the offices next to the magistrates court, so fairly near the centre. How far to travel depends on accomodation. It wouldn't achieve much having a 2 x 20 miles round trip to see the girls each day, so I would need to be able to rent a room (to be frank would be happy enough with a caravan if it was close) within 5 miles of the yard, then no more than about 15 miles from town.
 
Have a look at the adverts in Mole Valley (Cullompton) and Town and Country (Broadclyst) they have details of smaller yards and sometimes have details of yards with accomodation. Also look on Freeads.
 
The bridford/dunsford areas are fab for hacking mostley off road, and lots of steep hills both areas have a lot of livery yards, or there has been places to rent..

STR in the christow shop there was an advert i think 6 acres with water and a shelter, dont suppose its in the bridford news is it??

op theres a place called orchad nurseries in exeter theres also been a few ads up there for livery yards, and there was a small yard to rent with a few acres 60pw, i can get the number for you tomorrow if you want?

if its a short term thing there is space where i keep my neds but to be honest I think there is an old livery maybe comin gback for the winter and a friend may need livery for her pony when its half terms etc.. it however at the end of the day is not a livery yard as such (just me and a friend there) 5 horses between us. there is stables and a school, but all are taken. (if emergancey night before a comp etc neither of us would have an issue with sharing my 3 lads all live out all year.)

it all works but it is very erm how do i put its rough and ready.. yard has water and electric/heated tack room but owner now lives out of the area so we do as we please and i try and sort the fields out! (maintence etc)

hence why i said short term plenty of grazing and so much damn grass im borrowing some sheep to eat it and all the weeds down!
 
I keep my mare in Exeter, near Ide/Whitestone. There are numerous yards around, but all year turnout is not so easy to find if your horse lives out at night too.

The yard I just left had all year turnout but they had to be stabled overnight in winter. Current yard is supposed to be all year turnout, but for about a month after I arrived there was only every other day turnout.

My daughter has lessons at Haldon, they take grass liveries I think.

Oak Tree Farm in Shillingford is in by night in winter and by day in summer, but looked a lovely friendly little yard when I viewed it, and it was recommended to me.

There are lots of places anyway, so you should be fine, have a look on the notice boards at Rollestone Feeds too, they often have livery vacancies advertised.
 
I like to turn out 24/7 from april to oct, but after that they very definately come in at night.

Not worried about rough/ready, currently live on small holding so used to having to be self sufficient. Lack of livery yard would interest me much more, but don't want to be moving them again in few months.

60pw not bad, but reckon I could get livery with hay for that. Unless I found a sharer it makes it out of my range (given hay prices).

Please keep coming with ideas, all very welcome.
 
pip, my yard is 24/7 the main propblem in winter is we get snowed/iced out so putting them in during such weather is not an option, its never for more than 48 hours but last year in the snow, i travel from exeter and there was somebody in the village to do the horses so not worth the risk of driving it.

Our hay man put heston bales out and he used to just go as and when and we didnt need to be there, (we had so much good grass all we used was 4 heston bales and 15 small bales all winter between 5 neds:D)

also freezing water, we did on a couple of occassions use a blow torch to defrost the tap lol! again when i couldnt get there due to ice/snow friend sledged water dow to horse.

sounds utter hell doesnt it? its not theres around 20 acres, and we have a heated tack room and for what we pay its so worth it, not to have any liveries about!

as somebody else said ide is a good area for livery hacking isnt so fab but if your happy to be doing 2 - 4 hours hacks then you can get off road.

I honestley dont think in the exeter area you will be getting livery for 2 horses incuding hay for 30 pw.
