Yard owner wants everyone to sweep from their hay stack all the way to the muck heap, every time you sweep up. So this meant that I swept past 12 stables this afternoon to Get to the muck heap... surely DIY everyone should be responsible for tidying up after themselves?!
as it Happens I’ve always swept the whole line Of stables where mine is anyway as I Hate mess, but now I am having to do the whole yard which seems a little unreasonable. Especially when I turn up To hay outside my stable where Someone has tied and not swept up?!
oh dear this sounds really moany! I just find it a little annoying annoying because of a few lazy people who don’t sweep up properly.

Yes sort off. We sweep from stable to muck heap. Then from straw/hay to stable. If someone mucking out at same time we tend to sweep to next person and then that person takes over.

Oh I’d love to have people sweep up.....outside my stables always swept but hardly anyone else bothers. They turn out and leave doors open, mess everywhere...it does ruffle my feathers a bit and I’m sure it doesn’t give a good impression when there are visitors but it’s not my yard so I keep schtum.

I just sweep my area but often rake up the barn entrance as no one ever does that but I’m retired so have more time than most, the annoying thing is when I’ve just swept up and one particular person then drags a hay bag over where I’ve just swept up?

Normally just sweep my own area though last yard "my" area overlapped a communal space that got pretty messy so i swept that too.
sometimes I have a big clear up but it's never been a daily thing, more an "as necessary" thing. I have been on a yard where there was a rota to run the yard hoover round, ended up being about once every 10 days.

This has been expected on both DIY yards that I was on. It usually ended up with only me sweeping the whole lot (stable furthest from muck heap) but it’s minor on the grand scale of things - a 10 minute job that keeps the YO happy is pretty valuable IME.

Whats normal on diy yards, is a very few small number do all the ragworting, checking and filling rabbit holes, checking fencing, keeping their area clean etc, while all the rest leave it for someone else to do, whilst using some pathetic excuse or another, not to do anything, a common excuse being "if (insert name) isnt doing it, then I'm not" if they are pushed into doing anything, they totally begrudge it, I dont know why some bother habing a horse.

I feel your pain! This is so true!Or they’ll say they can’t help today but will be able to some point in the distant future!

No do your own area and then take turns doing communal areas. I probably do them more than others as I hate a mess. There’s some that never do them but that’s the way it goes.

It depends how far away the muck heap is, for the one we had that would be pointless. Everyone did their own section in the week and do a bit more of the communatl sections at the weekend.

I’m a sweeper, I get satisfaction from seeing everywhere nice and tidy/clean - it doesn’t bother me that others don’t as its my choice - if someone was actually monitoring others for their input and doing something about it if they weren’t it would make me feel very virtuous ? but I’ve learned over the years it just doesn’t happen ?‍♀️ Sweep up if you feel like it, and don’t if you don’t - just like everyone else ?

I sweep my area into a pile, then put it in my wheelbarrow and wheel it to the muckheap. I'm meticulous though with my dustpan and brush, there's a distinct line between my area and the next.

I just have to sweep my area - was the same on the last yard when Cobbus was in a barn, though if he trailed shavings down it on the way out I swept the whole thing. I used to sweep the hay tent too and restack the muckheap into steps. I can't stand a yard that's a mess, and thankfully neither can the YM where I am now.

My flat's a disaster tho...
