the main con is you are saying you have 15k to fence, build and arena, yard and stables. Thats nowhere near enough, so its not going to be an option for you.

I have 15k for the fencing, arena fencing(basically all fencing)! So I have about 65k (max )to spend for everything ☺️

Another con - if you're a sociable person and like to ride with others you may find yourself completely alone (unless you have other horsey family members) which is not for everyone. Also, you have to pre-organise outside help if you go away or have a long day out and they need turning out/bringing in.

The pro - you can't beat having them on your doorstep.

Pro - you can look after them exactly how you want, they are there all the time, you don't have to travel to see them. Ride when you want without any comments at all.

Con - how many horses, will they get separation anxiety when you go out with one. No one to ride with unless you fix up a date. Have to do all the maintenance yourself, cover for holidays, even days out (I must get back for the horses) or long work days. If you are ill who is going to cover. Arrange to get hay for the winter plus bedding.

I'm surprised at the length of the cons, considering I have always had mine at home!

Pros you can look after your horse the way you want to. You don’t have yard drama. You have no traveling time. You don’t have to fallow rules. You can spend more time with your horse. It way cheaper as well .

If you have the opportunity to keep horses at home I say go for it. My friends have horses at home and they say it best discussion they have made.

Having had horses at home for the past 20 years I would say the biggest pro is being able to keep them just as I want and check them at night in my PJs . When my daughter was at home and had horses I was never lonely as we always hacked together and went to lessons and comps together too. These days I'm on my own and I miss the support and companionship of having another rider on the yard. I've been incredibly lucky to always have help on hand from a near neighbour and horses that have been easy on the ground however, with the horses I have now I am reluctant to let her do the bringing in and that has become a bit of a tie. I'm actually thinking of moving and having Rose on livery to make it easier as I get older.
