My DIY livery (S Wales) is £20 pw for the stable and grazing plus £3 pw for use of the 60m x 40m outdoor school. Ad lib haylage during the winter is about £8 pw, in the summer (neds out 24/7) we pay £1 per stuffed full haynet if we should need it. We can buy supplementary services off the YO eg feed/turnout or bring in at £1 a day or £5 per day for full service. We buy our own bedding and feed. Shavings around £8 a bale and feed as norm.

We pay £25/wk for box, arena, SJ, XC course, individual 24/7/365 post/railed paddocks. Hay is £2.50/bale or you can buy your own in. All bedding or haylage - you have to buy in. I get straw currently for £1.50/bale but usually £2.50/bale. Haylage (big square) is £25/bale delivered. YO will provide cover at £10/hr.

my new yard is £34 per week all year round but with no hidden extras - this is stable, school (with lights), SJ paddock and separate boarded grass dressage arena, horse walker, straw and either hay or haylage. it seems like a lot for the winter but I like the idea of being able to bring my horse in off the grass in the summer without paying through the nose for it!

Old yard was £45 a week in winter - plus I think £8 a week for haylage and £3 or £4 for ménage lights. hay and straw included and then in summer it was £30 per week, plus £5 a time for the ménage, and although I cant remember how much a large amount for hay/ straw (haylage not available in summer) they had a cross country course included in the price but no horse walker.

Needless to say very lucky to have found new yard!!

I have been at a series of yards that just want your money, this new yard is run by a family who actually love horses!

I cant believe how lucky I am to have found this place and I am really looking forward to saving up money to spend on nice things for the horse and the chance to spend more time schooling her. it’s a shame that more livery yards don’t follow the example of this one.

The current ménage is 20x40 but they are about to build us a second one 40x60 - so then it will be even better. the hacking is also amazing, straight on to bridle paths and in the woods, literally miles of hacking. at the last yard if you wanted to hack you had to pay, as we were surrounded by busy roads the farmers let us hack round the edges of their fields if we paid.

Simplicity is the key, I hate being given an invoice and having a huge list of extras to check through and of course, a huge total! obviously I have never run a yard so I really couldn’t be sure, but you would think that it would be easier for the Yard owner as well!

i totally agree rather than bring my own food and hay etc this way everyone use the same.
what horse do you have?
i am still waiting for the yard to come back to me with a price i get my horse first week of sept. so excited i think my head will explode lol

I have a 6 year old Dutch warm blood x Thoroughbred. I rescued her when she was just under a year so she is very special to me, but she has me wrapped round her hoof so gets away with murder!!

what sort are you getting? do you already know which horse it is or do you have to wait till nearer the time to go looking for one?

lets hope that its not too expensive! You have given yourself too much time to start buying rugs boots and numnahs! by the time you get the horse you will have spent as much on his wardrobe as you did on the horse! haha

Best of luck with the new arrival though, will look forward to seeing pictures in the near future

i actually know what i am getting its a 4year friesian gelding and he is called paddy and i love him already (maybe too early) i have everything already but you never know lol!!
i went to see him today and he is so cute.
i am getting him sept simply because the summer holiday and i have 3 kids so as the dealer is happy to mind him its the best thing for him.
