I have just returned home from doing my horse with a letter telling me the charges are going up rather alot, this has put the fear of god into me as I will not be able to afford such a large increase and am thinking that YO is being greedy, what do you pay for DIY and what do you get for it

old yard was £15 per week for grazing over 4 acres split into 2 feilds. it doubled to £30 a week once a stable had been built, i moved due to very aggressive tb yearling trashing all the fencing & sinking her teeth into my throat & lashing out with both front feet at my bump (not risking my kids)

i now pay £10 per horse per week for access to 9 acres of grazing, having to sort own fencing with other tennant & shelter before winter comes but as the grass is currently at chest height on my 2 sec A's they are on a smalish bit at a time.

Well I pay £12.50 essentially for rent of stable, field and space for tack!

I have a friends who charged (I left 18 months ago because too far away) £20 for DIY livery. She offered as above and keeping an eye on horses, would help if necessary at no extra cost also she does fencing and things like helping less experienced horse-owners, calling vet and caring for horse if there was something wrong with them. She also gave advice if you asked for it. They have a sand school now...not sure if they are charging more.

So basically I tend to think it is very subjective and depends from yard to yard and depends greatly from place to place.

You could try telling YO you can't afford it and would have to leave. If they are just being greedy it may make them rethink, there is no point in them putting prices up if everyone leaves!

Mine is £27.50 per week with use of the indoor arena and outdoor arena (when theres no lessons on) and turnout, the liveries have a rota for feeding so if your on the rota your horse is feed breaky and lunch

I pay £17.50 a week. I get a huge stable, large field for individual turnout. Sand school. Only down side is there are only 2 of us and it makes bringing in in winter difficult as no one around. All in all very happy with what we have got.

At the stables I go to at the moment it's £38 for a small box, £40 for a large loose box. It includes use of full facilities, vet and farrier, and bedding. It's something like £5 extra for wood chips I think though :p xx

I pay 70 a month for grazing with stable and 8 per week for grazing only. We can purchase hay, haylage and straw on site which is added to our bill at the end of the month. We also have use of an outdoor arena which we pay as we use!

It is completely DIY but YO/Farmer checks them in the morning 6am and 11pm when he closes up, it has be far been the best yard I have been at!

£25 a week for a reasonably sized stable, a paddock (can share with another livery if you want, YO not really bothered), well fenced, with water to each paddock. Floodlit rubber + sand school, barn for feed, hay etc. It's 1.50 for a bale of straw and £3 for YO's hay, when it's available.

We pay £25.00 per week. He is out 24/7, with field shelter, water drinker in paddock, including hay / haylage and bedding. School, Jumps in grass field, cross country course, woods, loads of hacking. Great, great place.

£32 a week for the first 2 horses then 10% discount for any horses over that.

Includes -
Nice 12 x 12 barn stabling
My own fields to alternate as and when grass runs out.
Small x country course (mobile fences with permanent steps)
40 x 20 school
Free lorry parking
and all hay included.

Plus its run by people who offer help if you need it but leave you to your own horses with no interfering!

I pay £22 p.w (was £20 but went up this month) & this includes:
Stable, individual turnout, 45mt x 23 mtr floodlit turf float arena, secure tack room, space in barn for storage of feed/hay/bedding, water to paddocks, kitchen & toilet with hot water. Free parking of lorry or trailer. There is also an on site groom who will do any jobs you want doing if you fancy a day off or horse clipped etc. :)

My yard is quite expensive for DIY but it has some of the best facilities around. I just hope they dont put the price up anymore. Its £36 a week for 12x12 stable, individual 1 acre paddock (can have group turnout), use of horsewalker, 60x40 outdoor arena, round pen, feed room, hay barn, tack room with individual lockers, solarium & wash box with hot water(both cost extra) and client lounge. There is some private offroad hacking too. They also put morning feed in at 6am if you leave the bucket outside.

Wish we had an indoor for that money but other places in the area with indoors dont have the all year round turnout or just isnt as nice a yard.

i pay 115 a month this includes lardge stable turnout big 60 by 40 school cctv hay barn with space and trailer parking o and lots of show jumps. i have to get my own bedding feed and hay but works out ok and horse is happy as wasnt where he was befor :)

I pay £95 pcm per horse and this includes:
Large stables
spring / summer / autumn & winter paddocks all 3/4 an acre each
Hot water shower for horses
Wash room
Alarmed tack room
Tea room with tea/coffee and biccis provided :D
Indoor hay barn / feed room
40 x 40 outdoor school
POO PICKING incl!!!! :D
AM feeds
Brilliant off road hacking
10% off all rehab / therapy treatments

30.00 per week for stable, group turn out (which i want rather than individual paddocks) use of new sand/rubber arena, although not floodlit, Am rug change, brekky given and turn out and pm brought in and dinner given as all are fed at the same time. All the horses are so chilled it is by far the most relaxed yard with the happiest horses i have ever been on. Love it!

I pay £25 per week for a 12x11 stable, mixed turnout and use of a 20 x 40 outdoor school. I have to pay for and supply my feeds, hay and straw serperately but my YO does am (daily) and pm feeds if needed. They will bring in and turn out and will also do a quick muck out for me if I have a day or two off and not charge any extra so I appreciate that i'm a bit spoiled. (However, before anyone gets jealous there are downsides which are mainly to do with the YO's husband being quite sloppy and not always spotting and reporting if things are amiss ie missing shoes!)

I'm £30 p/w for stable, group t/o (I prefer this), use of outdoor and small indoor schools and jumps. Small xc course, tack room and day room with vending machines etc. Haylage is £15 p/w over the winter but its adlib in the fields and stable. They put the round bales in the field so my horse got fat during the cold snap lol

I pay £30 a month for stable and good summer grazing. We also have good winter grazing with the option of living out all year, if we want them too. Hay, straw etc we have to sort out ourselves. We do lack in storage, but manage. No interfering YO, left to get on with it and support each other when needed.

I'm in Lancashire and I currently pay £18 p/week which includes:
Large indoor barn stable, private tack/feed room, use of large outdoor sand arena and acres of fields sectioned off into several very large paddocks to provide enough turnout for everyone on yard. Next to good bridle paths too.

I pay £37.50 per week for a large stable, huge tack room/rug room with heaters, kettle and microwave, hay storage, feed room, parking of my trailer, individual turnout, large floodlit sand/fibre school and whoever getting down the yard first feeds all horses (normally YO!) plus the best part of it is I love it and so does my girl :D its a fantastic yard, just 7 liveries including YO at the moment, no bitching and everyone is lovely.

I pay £120 per month. Stable, 5 acre field (which only my 3 go out in), flood lit outdoor school, Hay & straw is included. Secure tack room, feed and additional storage in barn, Kitchen area with washing machine, Parking for lorry. Excellent hacking and we can also ride anywhere on the farm. Fantastic yard, been there 10 years and would never want to leave.

Varies between £115 and about £125 per month depending on the size of your horse. This includes stable, all year turnout in separate sex herds (sometimes grazing restricted in winter), turn-out and bring in is included Nov-Apr, haylage included for 6 months of winter, own tack box and feed bin, outdoor arena (extra for lights in winter). In summer you have to pay 75p per day for haylage. Then there's someone you can pay separately for extras like changing rugs, washing legs, bringing in for farrier, etc.

I pay £25 a week for stable, turnout and large outdoor school with jumps. Have to get own bedding and haylage is £1 a day.

But thats south coast prices!

Current yard - £25 a week, stable, small amount of storage space outside stable, pallet in hay barn (per person not horse so having 2 makes this interesting), 2 schools (neither maintained particularly well, indoor is 20 x 40, has a dip in it along one side, isn't watered well so is either dry or wet and is closed all summer so YO doesn't have to water it), outdoor is small, deep on one side and dusty. There is a tack room but it's not massively secure. A few small xc jumps in a field. Herd grazing (in small groups), quiet country lanes and bridleways and some fields for hacking. We have to do everything ourselves re maintenance / ragwort etc and nothing is supplied. No toilets. Hose water drawn from stream so no pressure making everything seem difficult and affected when YO or her family used water in their houses as all came from same source.

This time last year I was at a great yard but it was too far from home. Worked out at approx £35 a week, stables in a American barn or outside facing, space in locked room for tack and feed, 2 paddocks as have 2 horses for me to manage, included unlimited hay and straw, lovely schools - outdoor and indoor, horsewalker, fantastic xc course, gallops and great hacking. Also had loos with hot water and heaters and good wash down facilities. Tried to get OH to move closer to the yard but he wouldn't :).

i pay £100 a month and have to squeeze my 16hh mare into a 3.5mx3.5m stable, we have no storage space, ony 1 metre of concrete infront of stable block, which is falling apart, and the rest of the yard is dirt/stones. drain is blocked and only field is between 5 horses and totally bare. we do everything ourselves except fertilising which never gets done anyway and as is owned by a riding school, during summer cmp our tiny paddock is overrun with random horses who we arent warned about the arrival of so all of our alternate grazing is eaten away in a mtter of days.. am desperate to find own small yard/grazing but parents refuse to move as is a 15 minute walk from my house. we dont even get acess to the school at the riding school up the hill (who own it) without paying £10/hr!

£20 per week for stable and year round turn out, but no facilities at all (my horse is retired so we don't need them anyway) on a farm. Space in an unlocked tackroom/storage area but if a new livery comes we've had to shove up in the past. Hay, haylage and straw is available, but we pay the same as any member of the public just turning up. There isn't a huge amount of space for turnout and we try to manage it ourselves, but new horses could turn up without any reference to us already there. That worries me more than anything to be honest. No quarantine for a start! If we need a bit of help/holiday cover we fix it between ourselves.
