Just wondering if anyone has any experiance making their own rugs. I have been given a load of sails (don't ask!) and I'm trying to work out if I can use them and turn them into new winter rugs for my horse.
Thanks Vx

Hey there
I have made my own, and theres another person here who is making her own rugs (Lobelia_Overhill) for her new horse.
Do you have a good sewing machine? You need one with an industrial needle (or a leather needle) to get through the material.

Its pretty easy and very good for money saving especially if you are given material and save they leg straps and clasps from discarded rugs.

ooh thanks for the name check CR!

I dunno about making rugs out of sails, but I can imagine it would be possible, buy a cheap sheet style rug to use as a template ...

This is one of the quilts that I used

This is a cotton throw that I'm turning into a summer sheet type thing

I've also used a king size sheet to make a summer sheet.

(I've also been buying rugs!)
