Hello all!
As of currently all our saddles are scattered around the house on banisters (it's a long story). I plan to clear out a shed to start a new tack room in there as it is quite hidden and right behind the house so more secure than at the yard.
Anyway, I have 4 saddles and wish to make a long DIY saddle rack for them all to fit on. My thinking was to build a clothing rack similar to this -> https://youtu.be/T6Bbnn5wK44 but make it shorter and longer with possible extra support half way through. I was wondering a couple of things:
1. What material is best for leather and synthetic saddles to sit on? Would steel pipes be fine?
2. Would the singular cylinder steel pipe going across the top be enough support for the saddle structure?
3. Do you have any other suggestions/ comments?
Thank you in advance,
Ros x

My saddler has said that a single pipe is the best thing - the saddle structure doesn't need support but the flocking/air pockets whaterver NEED not to be deformed by stuff sticking out (like most saddle racks have).

I personally would use plastic - no risk of rusting/adverse reactions between the materials.

Thank you so much! i heard that before about the single piping but doubted myself since it's not the case with shop brought saddle racks and traditional ones. Once again thank you!

Well, you couldn't charge as much for a pipe could you!

Also, and this is a more serious point, in a busy shared tack room there is something to be said for a less optimal rack which it is harder to knock things off - obviously in your own shed there won't be as much coming/going/banging saddles onto floor - I hope!
