DIY Thinning Comb. Any Ideas?

I need to thin out my Shetland's mane, she isn't going to be going to any shows this summer and I feel quite mean as it is quite full and thick.

Is there any way I can thin it out without a thinning comb/shears? (apart from just hacking into it with scissors!)

I use a razor comb from Boots - very cheap. It does tend to just shorten though rather than thin.

I've just borrowed the oster mane rake (I think that's what it's called) from someone at my yard......bl**dy brilliant.
