DIY Trailer Maintainance

My trailer is getting on a bit and there are some minor cracks on two of the panels. Have just had it serviced and been told that they are fine for now as they are superficial but need keeping an eye on. I've been told they will be about £300 each to replace and that the main cost is the time involved.

I just wondered whether anyone has tackled this sort of job themselves? What's involved, where did you get the replacement panels etc. It looks quite straightforward but I don't want to get half way through and find out I was wrong!

Ifor williams are doing drop in replacement ally floor kits, you don't say what your make is ??

Its a Ifor Williams 505. The floor is fine - it was replaced a few years ago. Its a side panel and a panel at the back that will need to be replaced.

With any diy job like this, expect any steel screws or bolts to be seized/rusted solid. They may need drilling out (slow but accurate), or angle grinding off (fast and furious)

Take out the old panel, lay it down on the new sheet and draw around it to get an identical shape.
Clamp the two panels together with some G clamps and drill through the holes in the old panels where they are bolted so it all aligns when it goes back together.

Might be worth PM spot on for gold (not sure of exact name) but they have rebuilt their trailer to a high standard and i would think know all about how to do it!!
