DIY Trailer Paint Job

So today I bought myself a trailer!

It is my first trailer so after looking long and hard I picked up a lovely little Rice Eventer Pony trailer in really good condition. New aluminium floor last year, and new tyres and a rewire earlier this year. Only downside is the paint is old and very faded. Doesn't look particular crumbly, just really faded.

It hasn't cost me a lot of money, so I don't want to spend a fortune on tarting it up. So who has painted their own trailers? What paint did you use? Brushes or rollers? What prep did you do and most importantly, before and after pictures please!

It's a boring (and I would guess original) blue/grey. so I think I'd like to tart it up a little any way, but thanks for the tip. :)
 
I did spend a bit of money on paint, having said that I didn't think it was much at the time as I was working full time, wouldn't dream of spending nearly £80 now! I went to a car body place and got them to match my discovery colour for the body and I painted the top in a cream colour. I just sanded it down well beforehand.
 
If you can get it sprayed, do it. Painting with a brush or roller may allow the paint to go on to thickly. A glass roller may lessen this effect.
Should be able to hire a paint sprayer from your local tool hire place.

I did my old rice trailer in hammerite, actually came up surprisingly well. Sanded and wiped down first. I was told that once I'd done it in the hammerite it would be iimpossible to paint over again though. I made sure to pick the 'smooth', not hammered finish. Trailer had enough dents as is!
 
I did my lorry with a small gloss roller, it's a nice finish, I definitely wouldn't brush it on. I used b&q wood and metal paint.
 
I painted mine once. It took days and my finish wasn't great. It was significantly harder work than I'd expected. I had to do it outside and dust blew up in the wind and stuck to the wet paint. My friend had hers sprayed and it looked amazing. I wouldn't paint another.
 
hammerite is the best stuff but it is really expensive. I repainted my old rice trailer with garage door paint, comes in several colours and not as expensive. Worked a treat and it looked lovely. We used a paintbrush.
