I have to say that she does look a bit on the poor side. I don't know much about your previous posts regarding her but has she been ill recently?

Progress is slow - as I posted yesterday I would be giving her soaked oats - I suspect you be will suprised at how much she will eat of them - mix in some alfalfa and beet and there will soon be a difference.

I just had a look at the previous picture... there is some tiny little bit of improvement
cool.gif
Not so much in the weight, but she does look better, more shiney and like she was picking up within herself iykwim
wink.gif

You don't really want the weight to pile up quickly, so I would say you are on the right road

Her coat looks WAY better, I bet the Blue chip pro is really helping. Poor little Diz, she appears to have more muscle over the shoulder to, defo more defined so thats good and behind the saddle looks a bit better, too. Shame we cant see under that mane :)p). Does blue chip have pro and pre biotics in it?

It will take time, that's all. Good grass, good hay, conditioning feed and keeping the exercise light is all it should take now she's feeling better. Give it a chance to take effect. Another month and I expect we'll see some pictures of her back to her old self.

Hey MM

I know she's had a period of unsoundness (does my memory serve me correctly?) but she is looking very lean - whats the story behind it? She's such a beauty, reminds me of my first mare - and last mare!!!

Definate improvement but still it breaks my heart that she's she's had such an unlucky time - so glad she's got you!

Though you've had some really great feed advice, i'd be inclined to stick with what you're doing for a wee while yet as it always takes a while for new feeds to have their full impact & it does look as though this is doing its job well albeit slowly. Just my opinion, though
smile.gif

Can't wait to see her when she's not so thin, poor little lamb.

)LOL the expression on her face is brilliant bless her
grin.gif

She is sooo blonde - and that hair!!!
cool.gif

She will pick up as the sun comes out and the grass comes through and now if she is feeling better in herself that will help too.

It is horrible when they look poor (used to put a rug on mine so no one could see
blush.gif
)
You cannot beat TLC and a pain free horse, she will be fine.

But it does look better in the second pic, slightly tidier.
smile.gif
, I do love Dizzy pics, even if she does look a little hat racky, she still looks totally wonderful, and Little Miss Butter wouldn't melt. I bet the fact she grew a bit did not help her weight loss either.

You should weight tape her now, round the tummy, round the neck and flanks and see how much she puts on over the next month.

I think that her coat looks miles better
smile.gif

Yes she is still poor, i suggest boiled barley for weight gain, and a mash to tempt her to eat it? You can add maize to make it tastier, and it is also a very fattening food
laugh.gif

But please pull that mane!
tongue.gif
she will look much better when its pulled

. We've been having some 'Cover Mummy in lots of ginger hairs' brushing sessions
grin.gif
.

She'll eat, but not for long
blush.gif
. Gets bored and goes walkabout. Tried all sorts of things. Now on: Alpha A Oil, Bailey's No. 4, Blue Chip Pro, and sugarbeet twice a day (more often when I can persuade her to eat it!). I've put some oats to soak, so will introduce those tomorrow.

No! Cannot pull mane. Is reason for the name, The Dizzy Blonde
cool.gif
. When she's fit again, it will look right

What kind of work is she in now?

She will come - one of my horses came to me looking similar, time and steady eating did him the world of good.

I would replace the sugar beet with soaked grass nuts, works a treat for the retired cob who always now drops weight in winter. Never met a horse that didn't eat them with relish, and they are good for adding weight, without overloading with cereal, which can cause problems later.

I think she's looking better... I don't know about your weather, but how about rugging her well, so she's not wasting what precious little energy she DOES eat on heating herself??

I know that's the only way I can keep my mares weight up... She's SUCH a TB in the winter...and sometimes just "forgets" to eat!!
