Im very confused about what to? Last February my then 6 year old ISH went 2/10 lame and after several radiographs she was diagnosed with dengerative joint disease in her right hock.
The veterinary surgeon prescribed weekly injections of carthrophen for four weeks and boxrest, She doesnt tolerate box rest very well so after speaking to the vet we turned her out for 10 months.
I started her back in work at the start of the year and touch wood shes been sound ever since, but Im confused about how much I should or should not be doing. She loves to jump, and I do mean love if we leave fences up in the field she will jump them by herself. We arent aiming at top level jumping but I would love for her to be able the odd class or two.
The vet said that the push off the floor is the thing that will cause the problems if we have any at all, so we have jumped a few 65cm/75cm classes as they arent much more than a canter stride.
Am I been cruel to want to do more or am I been very cruel and shouldn't really be jumping her at all.
I have tried to ask my vet what he thinks I should do and he doesnt really give me an answer and I have tried to research DJD but I get some really conflicting views.
If anyone else has been through this and have any advice then I would really appreciate it.
