I'm not looking. Definitely, definitely not looking. I have Harri to focus on, I am very much not ok since having T put down.... but I saw this mare advertised 6 weeks ago and she's still around (can't help but wonder why?). I don't even like mares but for some reason I am really tempted to go and have a look.

Overpriced perhaps?

Anyone heard of these dealers in Kent, they seem to now be called MJL equestrian having previously been called DJL equestrian?

I've seen her in the flesh as I went to try her. Not the right horse for me but she is a nice mare. She is certainly worth a look if you are not hours and hours away. As with all horse shopping go with a knowledgable friend, take off the rose tinted specs and get her vetted. The dealer was also quite sensible. Good luck!

Wow thats fab, I questioned why she had been up for sale for so long and she said the right person hadn't come along. Mind if I PM you?I'm 2 hours/100 miles away...she would be vetted.

She's not my cup of tea and I do think that her hind end looks a bit weak, however if you like her, why not view?

As an aside don't pay extra for her colour, she's not Dun, she's a Sooty Buckskin and I do feel that the price could be partly due to the magical 'Dun' word. I can't imagine her being that much if she was bay or chestnut.

Hmmm... Viewing somehow feels like a big step when I really wasn't intending on having another horse in my life until Autumn especially when everything with T is still quite raw, I think there could be a real danger of rushing into something to fill the void.

I'll have a think. Interesting re the colour, whatever it is I certainly like it. What defines a dun? (edited to say I am a total colour novice so apologies if that's a stupid question!)

Simply Dun is caused by the Dun gene and Buckskin is caused by the Cream gene (which is also responsible for Palomino, smoky black, cremello, perlino and smoky cream).

Here's a page about identifying Dun markings. http://www.grullablue.com/colors/dun_factor_markings.htm

Bay + Dun and Bay + one copy of Cream (Buckskin) do look similar, but even if the Buckskin has some countershading it won't have the Dun Factor markings.

Sooty adds black pigment to the coat.
