Hey!!

Anyone done this before?

Im very confused .. doesnt take much! If I have a DNA test done of my horse this will show registered parentage? I know his sire and dam and all his bloodlines however they havent been recorded on his passport and I would like to have them in paper form.

Firstly Im doing the DNA Profile/Parentage Test this is the right test to do and it will show pedigree?

Im using AnimalGenetics, so if anyone know the form, when it says Reg#_____ are they asking for the horses/sire/dams reg number in the passport or just which society they are registered with?

Thanks in advanced for any help :)

You need to contact the registry to find out what they require and why your horse doesn't have named parents on his passport.

Animal genetics will need registration numbers and names of parents but unless you find out if your horse is eligible for full registration you are wasting your money.

I had a horse dna tested some years ago, won't go into the whys etc about it but to prove parentage you need a sample from the sire & dam. Without a record of the parents dna the examining scientist will have nothing to check against.

I've done this twice and both times got verified parentage, though both horses were not passported previously. It wasn't as expensive as I anticipated, the vet sent a hair sample to the Animal Health Trust and they couldn't have been more helpful.

It's possible the sire already has his DNA on file which would make it cheaper, otherwise you will need hair samples from the sire & dam.

You can't just send in some hair and ask them "who's the daddy!"

thanks guys, I will keep bugging the lady to send some hair samples then.

There was a mess up with the passport and my boy ended up with nothing inhis passport.

At then end of the day its not the end of the world, I very much doubt I will keep him entire, even though he would produce some gorgeous babies, and I very much doubt I will want to sell him on anyway seeing as he is one of those 'once in a life time' horses.
