Please could any one tell me if there is any way of getting my pony DNA tested. His passport says he is a welsh section c but has no other information, it is only a pet id passport. I keep being told that he has great confirmation and i should show him but would like to find out if he is a part bred or full bred welsh c. Does anyone know if there is a way of finding out from a DNA test and if so how?

Thank you
Lawequine.

I briefly looked in to this but was told i would need a reference sample so was unable to persue it. How true that is i am not sure

Even of you somehow find out he is pure bred he would still need to be registered to be able to be shown in most m&m classes

There are some shows (mostly very small) that allow typey unregistered m&m types to be shown

DNA testing cannot say that a horse is a certain breed. As has been said you need a sample to compare against. If you think you know the sire's ID then a test can confirm it providing you also have a sample from him, similarly if you know the dam then again that could be confirmed again if you had a sample from the dam. If you have no idea as to parentage then a test would be a waste of money as it can tell you nothing. Sorry.
