DNA tests?

I might get one for my rescue she is a Cairn x meant to be crossed with a Scottie but having had Scotties she doesn't have any traits but I could be wrong. OH said the test will probably come back with 5 different breeds. I think it is quite interesting.

LOL, i tend to agree Ester! I'm sure i've read somewhere that known pedigree dogs were tested & the results were completely wrong. I work with rescues (both professionally & volutarily) & often hear of people who rescue dogs then pay to have them DNA tested. Obviously, it's peoples own choice & maybe just a bit of fun, but i think if it were me, i'd rather just guess (or get others to) & give the fee i'd saved to charity.

It's definitely a bit of a gimick, that works on the fact that lots of people would love to know. At least you'd have an answer then when people asked :D

I agree that its probably just a gimmick I too have heard of known pedigree dogs being tested and coming up with ridiculous crosses. I also saw a post on fb a while ago with a picture of a very small crossbreed, at guess jrt x yorkie, and a DNA test had come back showing the dog had great dane in its ancestry. The owners were saying "wow, you would never guess", probably because it wasn't true ! :p

LOL, exactly :-)

If they were £10 then they would be a bit of fun, but they are £60 + and in my opinion a total rip off.

I saw a lovely little ( 10 inches tall) dog at an agility show yesterday, I asked her how he was bred and she said whippet/greyhound and terrier. It was a rescue and they had done a DNA test. She truly believed the test had been right, there was absolutely no way there was greyhound in that dog, unless it was about 10 generations back, it was tiny. I would never waste my money.

I think those dog ones are hilarious!

What about the human ones where they tell you what % of which country you are made up of..

I'd thought about getting a horse I had DNA tested but not much point as its pretty useless anyway. Not to mention expensive!
