I have seen a couple of horse adverts showing a horse jumping where the rider is in jeans and a baseball cap. Does this put you off or am I a snob?

Its just it rings bells with me about the type of 'dealers' yard it might be.

It would put me of. . .

but then again when i saw my horse when looking at him to buy. . .he was ridden with no hat on. . .

but if i saw an advert like one you talk about it would put me of

it wouldnt put me off purely for the fact your buying the horse not the person riding although i do get where your coming from. make your decisions about the horse not where its from or you could miss out on a cracking offer! just a word of warning

It would make me open my eyes to where it was from a little more; just makes me wonder what else they'll do to jump without a hat. But I'd still go see the horse.

Puts me off, makes me think the owners are idiots, so i dont trust the advertising

I have a big thing about riging in hats and cant understand why anyone wouldnt. But i ride in jeans sometimes- skinny jeans...so thats almost johdpurs.

It would put me off in they were in jeans/baseball cap in an advert, fair enough at home doing what they do but for an ad first impressions count and I think people should make the effort to wear jods at least!

It wouldn't put me off, but I do think that adverts including photographs of riders without a proper riding hat should be refused by the website admin people.

Having had my own skull saved by a riding hat and in an age where we are becoming more aware of safety in our sport, I think it highly irresponsible that this is not regulated in any way - as well as the fact that it sets a bad example to youngsters.

I'm afraid it does, along with pictures that depict:

- people riding dreadfully (the 'armchair' really makes my teeth hurt, but snatching whilst jumping is a close second)
- horses kitted out in more metalwork than a gunshop
- barbed wire/rubbish/ragwort in the background
- toddlers slung on-board an unheld horse to 'prove' its lovely temperament (extra points if they're in an open field/it's a stallion/child looks terrified)
- horses in rugs (why? What are they hiding?)

...and I could go on. My thoughts would be, 'if they've done this stupid thing, then what other stupid things might they have done?'

I have come across enough young professionals who make a living by selling horses with 'fixed' issues to have noticed a pattern that many prefer to ride in caps. So yes, when I see this in adverts it arouses suspicions.

Exactly and I once bought a horse with a fixed issue and I will be honest it broke my heart and I couldnt pass the trouble on so sold honest and dirtbag cheap and lost a fair amount of money over a so say 'private' sale

No hat is messy and looks awful but jeans is fine, I hate breeches and would do almost anything to not wear them, wayyyyy to unflattering. I know very few people who would happily wear breeches if riding all day and having to do the odd pop down the shops, and also right now I'm favouring the shorts and chaps look in this heat.
