I phoned my local pony club to see about my 4,1/2 year old granddaughter joining, but they don't want any more ;lead rein children . I would have thought that once a kid joins what ever age you have them for ever .I always thought the pony club was to teach ....(from young acorns grow mighty oaks etc.)
I have my BHSAI so I could have been some use to them I would have thought, but hay ho B@@ll#s to them.
we will go it alone.just thought the pony club was a nice way for kids to learn the correct way.
Are all pony clubs so selective or is it just Soham pony club.Cambridshire.

Are there no other pony clubs local to you? I have the choice of 3 or 4 pony clubs that are near me. If not then I agree that some riding stables are official pony club centres and do rallies and camp etc maybe they could be of some use.

Have to say have never heard of this. Who did you call at the PC in question - was it the DC or membership secretary? Also, I dont know what Area you are in, but if you look on the PC website www.pcuk.org and click on their map for your 'Area', it will list every PC branch close to you. In our Area, we've got the choice of 3 PCs that Mini TX could join if she wanted (Shes in Area 14). You can only realistically join 1, due to constraints if you wish to compete at Area level. I do find it a little odd to hear this comment. Maybe they have got a mega lot of tinies and want more seniors. Our PC is happy to take anyone on, and would be grateful for your services as well. Good luck with it - for all its faults its fabulous and very reasonably priced training - and you can join the ranks of the notorious 'Pony Club mummies'.

'What is the difference between a terrorist and a Pony Club mum?'

'Your can reason with a terrorist'. LOL

No I have to say Soham pony club are fab so please don't run them down. They may have turned you down as they are full to bursting at the moment at lead rein. Both my children are there at lead rein so i know they are full up.

I teach PC and have taught some tinies, so I'm sure it's just that PC. Not sure why they don't just open up another ride. Only a case of finding another instructor and it sounds as if you were offering! Bizarre! Why don't you call another local one?

I don't think it's as simple as just open up another ride, as i have said Soham has always been over full and had a waiting list for years as it's always so popular so can't be that bad can it. Why not try littleport pony club.

Oh and by the way it has nothing to do with they don't like very young kids as 5 kids on my son's ride are all under 6 my son included and one of them is only 4.

There is no lower age limit for people to join pony club!!

I taught a kid at camp who couldnt have been older than 2 - he was still in nappies!

However, there may be a number limit - our pony club has had to stop people joining as there was too many - I think the number was 340 at the start of the year!!

There was also 3 lead rein rides at camp, (well, mine were at the stage that they were about to come off them). Ask again i would say :)

There is no lower age limit. I sounds like Soham might just be full. Have you tried another branch?

There are some age limits imposed by insurance - you need to have your D Test to go to camp (although there is no lower age limit for taking it). You must have your Riding and Road safety to get your C test now and you can't take that until you are 12 becuase of the insurance and you can't take your B test until you are 15 for the same reason.

But other than that....it is really just branch specific. Don't be afraid to switch branches. We did and found a whole new lease of life!

Soham are full and have been for years.

There are other local pony clubs. The one I have most knowledge about is Littleport :here's their web page

There were an astonishing number of lead rein youngsters at the last couple of rallies I've seen so you might find your family fits in well.

I'm looking for more info about Pony Club too, my nephew is 8 and currently having riding lessons and is just starting to come off the lead rein. He'd love to try pony club, he had a fab time watching the pony club games at Chatsworth over the weekend.

He doesn't have a pony of his own (although his mum is considering looking for a share type arrangement in future, she's horsey too and is small enough to ride ponies so I think they might find something).

They are based in Derby so can anyone recommend an active branch for him to join? I don't want him to join and find that there is nothing much for him to do that he couldn't do at the riding school. The riding school he goes to is a PC centre but I'm not aware of them doing much in the way of PC activities or competitions. Are there many opportunities for kids without ponies at normal pony club branches? Or are any centres linked to normal branches?

Thanks Katt
