Hi. Just seen a bareback saddle pad advertised on ebay, didn't even know they existed. Do you have one and what are your experiences of riding in it? Any pictures would be good too!
I have one and ride in it a couple of times a week, only use it when we go down to the river, they are ok, mainly just stop you from getting a greasy or hairy bum!!! They provide a little more grip than just being bareback alone, I get on with it quite well, but wouldn't do anymore than a gentle bimble down to the river on it!!
I ride in a Best Friend bareback pad sometimes. At any pace, but I wouldn't use it instead of a saddle for too long because it doesn't distribute weight in the same way. Also, I'd never use a bareback pad that had stirrups, because there is nothing to keep the pad stable if you lose your balance for some reason. I really like the feel of bareback riding, but in the summer the horses are shiny and slippery, so a bareback pad comes in handy.
I've got one. I rode my mare bareback and found it very slippy and i am not a good rider at all, nor is she is suitable horse really to ride bareback but with the pad it's much easier as it does give you good grip. Would recommend if you want to do a bit of bareback riding.
