Hi. Has anyone found a veteran horse insurance that covers colic, wether it's emergency or just a visit and buscopan etc?!

My horse is out of the normal vet insurance now she's 20 and the only one I have found so far is EIS who I'm already with but would be good to compare.
Thanks

I have my 20 year old covered with Petplan with up to £5k for anything.

I lot of insurances won't cover for the older horse either which i found when taking out insurance.

XxX

Thank you. For your safety (or your horse's!) please check the policy that Petplan have given you as if you go on their website, their veteran policy says it only covers injury when it comes to vets fees, with no mention of colic...? x

think most insurance companies will only cover for injuries that arent age related (be aware that if you horse trips due to arthritis they may try to avoid paying). Colic isnt usually covered as it is much more likely to occur in the older horse due to 'ageing' of the structures involved in digestion, eg poor teeth. More than likely the insurance companies will write it in the small print so you may not realise that your not covered! xxx

If you have your horse insured with Petplan before the age of 15 (or it could be 18, can't remember exactly), the horse doesn't get put on the veteran policy until the age of 25, so yes the horses are covered for ANYTHING up to the age of 25 at £5k per condition.
