Sorry, seem to be dominating New Lounge at the mo! Any way, I'm moving house and the two horses and coming and we're having chickens too. When one of the horses goes out riding, do you think that the chickens will keep the other company?

If it were my horse the chickens wouldn't last long!

When he was a colt, he was turned out with a sheep for company. Everday the sheep would end up on the other side of the fence and noone could work out how it had escaped. Once day they caught him grabbing the sheep by his teeth and chucking the poor thing over the fence!

He, along with his old geriatric field chum, reguarly chase phesants out of the field... they seem ok with rabbits though

mine and the ducks and geese graze the fields alongside the horses
reckon geese would be better grazing company than chickens though

A chicken ran into a menage at a yard near me not long ago. There was a horse being lunged in there. Next thing, the chicken got a bit close, so the horse stomped on it and took its head off!!!

William has a chicken called Hettie, that lives in his stable.
Only this morning i went down to feed and the chicken was perched on his bum!!
When he was on box rest he stressed out all day as the horses were out, as soon as Hettie bonded with him i never had a problem.
Now, William is very protective of Hettie, and when the cocks hunt her down and try to have their wicked way her, William runs at them and tries to stomp on them.
My problem is, we are moving soon and i have tried to buy Hettie off YO, but she won't sell her!!
Poor Will is going to be gutted!!!!

One of my youngsters killed a sheep doing that Pasha!

He was out with another 3 year old and they started fighting over posession of a sheep :/ They both grabbed it and the rest, as they say, is history

I cant imagine chickens making good companions for horses tbh... i dont think mine would be impressed at least.

MMM, my goose loves to be near the horses, they seem to ignore her, hens are ok with horses, but dont seem to be companions just coenhabitants, although they do poo on the horses LOL. You have to be careful with cockeral as they can get a bit randy with the horses legs and the horses are not amused, and one stamp kills the cockeral

Chex juat chases the chickens if they venture too close, I think he just wants to sniff them though

. I can't imagine the horses would see them as companions.

Mine used to share her stable with a chicken (which used to lay at least an egg a day for me in her bed!) and I once caught it merrily perched on her arse as she looked over the stable door!

Some animals form odd bonds with other species so it is possibe that having a load of chooks out with the horses will provide a constant comforting presence when one horse goes away.

LOL at randy cockerel-that's got to eb a 'you've been framed' moment!!
