Been reading mixed reviews lately and don't want to purchase if it won't work in keeping my saddle in the correct place.

Thanks, EMily xx

Yes I have a Stephens Gel eze and it is amazing for keeping the saddle in the right place. I use it under a normal saddle cloth on my very round haffy. Trouble is sometimes when you get on, the saddle can slip a fraction towards you and then it is impossible to get back over so you have to get off and regirth (but I think this is slipping on top of the saddle cloth sort of thing). My horse seems to like it, probably one of the best horsey purchases I've made.

You can obviously use it without a saddle cloth but I'm not so keen on that idea as it would literally be glued to your horse's back, I think a small amount of movement into a comfortable position is probably a good thing. Useful for showing without a saddle cloth as can be cut to just within your saddle's edges.

I have several Barnsby grip pads. Work really well - don't even have tabs like most numnahs/saddle pads. Grippy both sides so pad doesn't slip on horse, nor does the saddle slip on the pad.

If you have a problem with saddle sliding backwards, I also use a Passier Auriga breastplate on a couple of mine - the most amazing thing I've ever bought - saddle doesn't slip back even 1mm and doesn't restrict horses movement at all (jumping up to Fox, so a fair test)

yes but why do you need one? the mare at work hated it and I don't blame her, they constantly pull on the horses hairs-try putting ont on the hair on your arm and moving it about

The Thorowgood saddle stay pad is great. easy to dunk in a bucket to clean and you can cut it to shape.

It dosen't have too much friction to it, but still really works, so no worries about rubbing

Great thanks, this was the one I was looking at getting I think. :) My saddle doesn't slip from side to side ever it just slips back a bit.thanks :) x

I ride an RS mare (ten years now) whose saddle tends to slip from side to side - she is narrow shouldered - and at one point the RS (and the saddler) tried a non slip pad. It did damage her hair and skin in one place - . She recovered after a break from work and now has a properly fitted saddle again over a cloth numnah. But that experience of a gel pad which seemed a good idea at the time has put me off.

Since I am not expert on tack and riding, it is reassuring to see that I am not the only one.

the mare at work is known for making her feelings felt and the third time she was ridden in a non slip pad she spat the rider off, she proceeded to do it every time the pad was used but not without it. a well fitting saddle and no slipping saddle and no uncomfortable mare

Really useful, neither of my horses are bothered by them, even well full clipped out. I have a barnsby one which I love and have recently brought two ecogold ones which are also excellent. Both horses have saddles fitted and checked by qualified and well reputed master saddle fitter.
