Please help.... I have recently bought a horse and she is kept in a field next to (not in the same field) some alpaca's. She really doesnt like them and is very spooky when they are near to the fence or she just refuses to come over. Does anyone have any experience of keeping horses and alpaca's? I'm wondering if this is something that she will get used to or if she would b happier if i moved her?

HI there,

We've got alpacca's and my two get on fine with them :D

At first, they couldnt seem to work out what these strange looking things were, especially when the alpacca's were running around, but all settled down and now they all get on great. When one of mine is out without the other, he'll and stand next to the alpac's and hang out with them.

The are literally next to eachother in the field - 10 acres divided up into paddocks, neds in one alpacs in the other and rotated as necessary.

I'm sure they will settle so wouldn't worry :)

Hello

I am new on here so hello :) We are considering getting some as well. I have been to a reputable dealer who will not sell alpacas separate they come in pairs or more (they pine and can make themselves ill if alone). The dealer keeps her horses in the same field as her alpacas and they all looked fine but it depends on the nature of the horse! The advantage of keeping them together is that the alpacas will only poo in one place in the field, and her horses are now following suit, so would ease poo picking! Good luck xx

Hi!

We keep all ours with the Alpacas at different times! We have 3 alpacas and popped the shetland Stallion in with them, didn't see any goings on (although hes an annoying sh**.... when we brought him in he was covered in green spit, so think they did well in handling him and tell him off lol!

currently we have 6 shetland mares and 4 foalies in with them and no probs.

the bigger horse have been in with them too and the alpacas just herd away! xx
