Something CMC said made me think...can people be asked/told to leave the field if they really can't handle their horses? If so, what kind of things does the horse/rider/both have to be doing to warrant this?

I do remember a jockey telling me once that some of the pointers that went out so they were eligible to race, were so bonkers that the hunt would say "we'll vouch for you, just please take it home" :D

(Don't think this would apply to me...I hope...my brakes aren't great but we manage :) just interested really.)

Yes I've seen people sent home for kicking hounds or haring around (either in control or out) - ie galloping everywhere when you should trot along a crop edge, generally being a nuisance!

I've seen people sent home, once for kicking the master (oops!) and once for galloping on the crops. Both were years ago, though, I don't suppose they would dare now, shame, some people could do with it!

I've been told about people being sent home for being rude to hunt staff, not being in control of their horse and for kicking a hound. Not yet seen anyone sent home though. Most tend to realise and take themsleves home.

Yes I have seen people sent home, usually as others have said for kicking or being out of control. Most folks will get away with being carted once, but if it happens twice it makes it very dangerous and unpleasant.
Most people have enough common sense to excuse themselves before they get sent home.

I've seen horses sent home for kicking. One lady had a known kicker but would refuse to discipline it whenever it misbehaved, despite everyone telling her that she needed to teach it a lesson. So surprise, surprise it got worse and she ended up being sent home after kicking out at a hound and was told not to return until she had given it a good hiding. We never saw her again.

Hmmm just to clarify I meant that my share horses owner took the responsible and sensible decision to send him home as it clearly wasn't working for him. I think 99% people who find themselves in same situation would quickly do the same to avoid any trouble.

But to answer the question yes hunt master can send you home if your horse kicks a hound or you are out of control. I'm sure you'll be fine. Hope you have a good time.

Ah well... one of our fieldmasters who is a female has a fairly temptestous relationship with the master and huntsman (basicallythe fieldmaster used to fancy the pants off him but he definately didn't fancy her which is why the relationship was so fiery).

They had a big row in the middle of a field and he was so cross with her he sent her home (he also sent her mother home who is the secretary at the same time).
