As we are in the middle of a very long dry spell and grass is gone, have been haying , but wonder if horses actually miss the grass or don't care as long as they are eating ?

i think they miss grass, my boy was in for 2 days box rest, but with non-stop hay supply, turned him out this morning for an hour and he was eating non-stop. my friends ponies coz of fatness and laminitus risk are in a pen with soaked hay 20 hours a day, they whinny like crazy when i come to turn them out for a few hours, even though they still have hay left

I think they PREFER grass (nice yum green stuff), but are content with whatever's going, really. Same as I prefer chocolate, but it's not necessarily what's best.

I think as long as they have the turnout they wouldn't mind less grass. If it was me i would spread the hay out so they have to walk to find it.

I think that they really long for grass- it is really important to my cob and th only thing that gets him excited.
