I have a pony, a 14hh welshie which i've had for over two years and i'm really attached to but I have grown from 5ft to 5ft 6 since I've had him and I'm really worried that I am being cruel riding him. I am definitely under his weight limit but people have started making comments about my height and how I should sell him because he is way too small for me, but I have such a bond with him it would break my heart and I cannot afford to get a horse and keep him at the same time. Please help me, i'm in such a dilema

it depends what you do to him

you say you are under his weight limit, so im my opinion you are perfectly fine to continue riding him! i know many people of your height that ride ponies, as long as the weight is ok and you feel fine i dont see height as an issue

the only thing that will limit you is classes you enter, i don't know how old you are, but having a 14hh will prevent you from entering senior classes. if you are competing local level then this wont be a problem but if you are wanting to do bsja or even trailblazers you would need one ex 14.2 when you're no longer a junior

but if that doesn't bother you, and to many people that wouldn't, as long as you are having fun with him don't listen to what people say!!You know your ponies limits and are more than intitlted to keep riding him!:-D

I'm 5ft 6 and have a 14hh New Forest. Do everything with him with no problems. Only thing I choose not to do is BSJA and BE because I worry about him not making the distances (he's 16 and owes me nothing). Ignore people! It's more fun to beat them on a pony!

I know the feeling, I've grown loads since having my 15hh lightweight mare, I feel tall on her but am under her weight limit. If you don't want to part with him or seriously compete.....don't! If you are under his weight limit, and so long as your feet aren't round his ankles you should be fine

Have you got a pic of you on him??

i'm 5'6 and have two 13hh welsh ponies, i dont care what other people think but was going to sell the young one a month or so back but in the end couldnt do it, he's a complete pig some of the time and has me in tears with his behaviour now and again but the bond is so great and i love him so much that he's staying! i probably would be better off with a bigger cob or something along those lines but im happy as i am so if your happy with your pony then ignore everyone else and have fun!

No, I'm 5'7 1/2 and on a 14,2 so it works out at roughly the same as you

. Who cares what other people think anyway? If you have a good bond together then that's all that counts.

LOL, if you think your too big for a 14hh at 5'6", then you'd think I'm a giant on my 14.1hh Arab!!

I'm 5'9" and don't have any trouble riding mine. Granted, I don't show but we do go out for good active hacks (long canters, galloping, jumping) and she carries me fine and is always revved up to go for more (so obviously I'm not over her weight limit!).

I've ridden some 15hh and 16hh's that I've felt underhorsed on!
As long as YOU feel comfortable and feel your pony is going well, then who cares what people say. Probably just jealous they don't have their own lovely pony
