Just brought my arab mare in and it was raining heavily. She has a 1200 denier rain sheet on and it was dry against her body. Yes her neck and head are wet but the base of her ears are warm. She was shivering like a washing machine on full spin! I am not one to over rug so is she just being a wuss?

Rain sheets are great in warmer weather. But in the weather we've had today - useless as they offer no warmth, just protection from the rain. So ideally you need something with a bit of fill.

I can sympathise. I have a wussy mare too. Any hint of getting wet, even in mild temps and you would think her world was going to end!!

My old man was the same at the weekend with just his sheet on proper shivering, i just popped him one on with a bit of fill and today he is fine

Mine, also arab, wanted in after a couple of hours this morning, even with a rug on!! No shivering, she just hates the wind and coupled with the rain, she wanted home comforts. The two natives are even worse!!! Now the weather has dried up and I did consider going and putting them back out again, until a gust of wind nearly took the house roof off!! Think they can stay in, lots of hay and they are in at night anyway! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day!

I`d agree that the temp has dropped, and though the rainsheets are good for keeping them dry, the thinner skinned horses do feel colder quicker in them .... a small bit of filling really helps (40g/70g) ...
