Charlie was sadly put to sleep last week, and i believe I have to send his passport away for something. Who do I send it to.? and what do they do with it?

from what i have read (horse passports wernt essential when i had my previous horse so i did a bit of research into them when i got my new one recently) you have to send them back to the passport issuer and get them to stamp it/mark it as horse deceased. They will send it back to you if you want to keep it. I think that is right. Otherwise look on the internet for the website of your passport issuer. It will def tell you on there.

Really am so sorry to hear about your awfull accident and such terrible losses of two horses. Massive hugs x

You do have to return it to the PIO, as unscrupulous people could use the passport of a deceased horse for a live one:(

However if you did want to have it as a keepsake, call your PIO and ask if they can send it back as I think they may be allowed to do this, once they have marked it so it couldn't be reused.

Firstly I am sorry to hear this, it did take me a month or so to do it, as I couldn't face it at first, but I wrote a short letter stating that Cairo had now died and return the passport to the issuing office.

I also informed the freezemarking company, but asked them to keep his personalised mark form me as it would be going onto our next clydesdale, who we had just bought and wanted her to have in his honour.

The first is a legal obligation and the second is a courtesy.
