Do i have to get a loan agreement?

i am currently looking for a loan horse and i just wanted to know whether anyone would reccommend getting an agreement written up and what to include? and also how much does it cos to get one written up if it does cost something.

don't even consider taking the horse if you don't have one

I'm currently witnessing a very nasty situation with no contract where the horse is seriously hurt and it is an almighty mess
 
Ditto the above.

It should include things like who is responsible for vets fees, amount of notice to terminate, what equipment comes with it, what level of care the owner expects (ie, out in day, in at night...)
 
A loan agreement is very important, so that both sides understand their responsibilities in the loan and it is made clear who bears what costs. The owner should be the one to prepare the agreement - there is a sample one on the BHS site which I have used as the basis of the agreement whenever I have loaned out a pony.
