i have a mountain and moorland connemara. i want to start hunting this season. i spoke to someone who does hunt and said i need to plait him.

Do i really have to, since he is an m & m? plus i still want to show him so i cant pull his mane really? dont know what to do.

As a general rule natives don't need to be plaited for hunting, but you could check with your hunt as a courtesy. I hunt a Sec D and have been out with several packs and never plaited him, just make sure we are both clean and smart.

Definitely not. Just make sure he is clean and tidy and take him as he is meant to be. No hunt insists that horses have to be plaited, it is just tradition. A native should always be unplaited unless it is being used purely as a competition pony.

Mostly no. As a general rule you don't plait natives. You also don't need to plait for autumn hunts.

You might want to check with the secretary for some lawn meets. technically the answer should still be no as he is native - but some lawn meets might prefer it out of respect to the land owner.

I plait my connie she just has bigger plaits! Or just do a running plait.

Best thing to do is check with your hunt secretary on what their prefered turnout is
