Im asking here as your all unbiased....its very difficult for me to see the bigger picture :o

I bought a little filly last year as a companion for my mare - since lost my mare so sent the filly away on "holiday", brought her back 2 months later - put a lot of work into her, i did buy her with the half mind to replace my mare ridden wise but to be honest i didnt really put masses of thought into it -0 i just knew i needed a companion... asap!

Shes meant to make 16hh - more like 15hh to be honest as shes currently 14.1 and rising 3 (back end of the year shes a very late foal....) so i cant actually do much with her in regards to starting her...

The height dosent bother me as i really want a 14.2 pony i can just have fun with, so long term she will make that but short term im bored. i want to ride.

i do like this filly but i do feel stuck with her for 12 months until shes old enough to break in....

Am i having a case of the winter blues or do i bite the bullet and sell and get soemthing i can ride now? (i will get about 1-1500k for her - going off what ive seen - but i dont have a lot to put towards another )

I do only want a 14.2 bomb about...so nothing flasy - some dressage etc - she WILL be nice once 3/4 (shes very pretty and flashy)...but im obviously very impatient and realisically it will be end of NEXT year before i can get out and compete (dressagE)

what to do with her!? i can throw her away but want soemthing else to ride in between?? project to buy and sell on???

i also have a guilt complex about selling as i know how bad the market is and where she could end up.... (main reason for hanging on)

thoughts please HHO........:o

Keep her.
Market is rubbish, you will get notihng for her, she sounds like in 2 years she will be perfect. Can't you loan or share something to fix your riding bug for now?
My youngster is just 3 now so I will back him this summer but I did buy another (very cheap) horse to keep me fixed.

Honestly horses of that age and size are almost impossible to shift for anything other than complete peanuts.

If she will suit want you want down the line I'd suggest keeping her and taking a horse on loan to keep you going in the Interim

thanks guys

i did cross my mind to buy something cheap to sell on again cheap - just so i can keep riding (not ridden properly since last may)...no-ones faul i just had a very sick horse.

Keep her and get your riding fix elsewhere for now. Loan or share if you can, or if you have the experience and fancy the challenge pick up something for meat money with a view to sell on.

yeah tbh shes my 4th horse :o (been riding for 20 years)...ive never broken anything in fully (did bring on a freshly backed 4 year old who was an absolute superstar (the mare i lost)

i could and love bringing young horses on - i may look into that - thanks :)

thanks o will have a look (fatal last words)!

whats selling at the moment??

need something easily sellable if needby?

i would turn pony away but already did this and she went feral and very evil :o

If this is the same youngster you had all the aggression problems etc with then I think you'd be lucky even getting peanuts for her. Why not just get a share of a schoolmaster, or one on loan, rather than another project.

yes she was a nasty piece of work - but a few weeks of pure messing with her and shes completely turned around... i would have happily sent her to the meat man tbh back then i hated her - she was just feral, confused and scared tbh.... she came accross as nasty though (im not making excuses i just know shes turned around well)!

shes quite nice though now....

i did half think about sending her away *again* and getting something on full loan (i love the yard im at and dont want to move)!...or buy something and sell in 12-24 months once she is old enough to break - but id hate her to turn feral again?

If you can afford another, I'd get something else you can ride now, but ONLY if you can keep doing appropriate "work" (for her age) with this girl. It sounds as though you aren't massively enthusiastic about her, so I'd stick her up for sale with the proviso you'd only let her go for the sort of money you're talking about.

If you managed to sell her for £1500 that is a much better guarantee of her future than keeping her on and doing nothing with her, TBH.

I doubt you would get 1500 for her just now. Is there nothing at the yard needing exercised? Do folk know you are desperate to ride? What area are you in?

What about a couple of school master lessons a week instead of something else. All the fun and no commitment.

At the end of the day, do you like this filly?

You have considered selling her before from what I remember, so why not just cut your losses sell her and start again.

Be realistic about a price.

Then with no money going on livery, farrier etc etc save up the extra and get a horse you really want.

I would keep her...or give her a chance. You will have to give her away atm. Nothing is selling and now we are back in recession you will get nothing for her. There are plenty of horses out there that need riding so why not put an advert in Equine Adverts are free. She is young but you might have a lovely pony to ride in a year.:D

thanks for the opinions.

i will hang onto her for now i dont want to give her away - she is sweet...im not utterly fond of her but couldnt really live with myself if she went to a crap home

i will persevere until end of the year and go from there - id imagine she will be backed nxt spring but at least by year end i ca start doing proper work with her

thanks :)
